Could it be the battery weight that sits outside the frame ?

mine has a clamp type ring that mounts to the frame just rearward of the fuel filter probably right below the connector you found. If I remember correctly it is mid way of the engine.

Also, I have an '04 myself, I can look when I run by the barn to see where mine is hooked into and let you know . It will be 2 hrs or so.

I believe that is a fused circuit. (check the fuse before ordering) Also I took mine off to see if my instrument tech could repair it ( not any serviceable components to the average person) , cleaned and lubricated the shaft with silicone lubricant,( use a bit a rtv to reseal the boot)...

my '04 has a differential lock pedal for intermittent use and a lock cable for holding it in. It is located near the seat bulkhead. Sorry misread, you did say the rear has it ..LOL Monday's are getting worse
