    Getting ready for winter!

Got my wood delivered this past week. 5 loads of logs plus about 5 pickup loads of butt pieces from cleaning up the logging loading area. The small light colored pieces are ash slab wood from the Amish sawmill. I don't want a repeat of last winter where everybody ran out and we had to fight the...

    Who turned on the freezer?

Holy crap it is chilly for August this morning. (46) Had to turn the heat on briefly to take a shower. I like it for working even if you need a jacket. Got the posts to expand my woodshed by 10 ft. so I can keep more wood dry in case we get a winter like last year. Have 2 big truckload of slab...

RTV to pull a small manure spreader?

Do you think an rtv can handle a small ground driven spreader if I load it mostly on the rear end of the spreader? That will keep the tongue weight lighter and the field I will spread in is fairly level. My neighbor wants to give me a big pile he has and will let me use his spreader. I will have...

    Dang cold this morning.

Woke up to this and it got to -20 with a wind chill of -52 right as the sun was coming up. Got out my military cold weather gear and loaded the boiler and coal stove. One greenhouse is down to 30 and the one with the coal stove is 40. The wind is obscene and you can't stay out very long even...

Who sent this dang heat and humidity up here?

We are blaming Two Guns and Tommy! Crazy that folks in Texas and elsewhere down south are cooler than we are. Hit 94 when I went by the airport at Elmira today. Humidity is so bad I have to be out at the crack of dawn to do stuff around the farm and still sweat like mad. Going to get worse till...

    For our southern friends.

Just so you know what winter looks like. We were actually warmer this morning (13) than most days got last week. Looks like a mess rolling in tonight with a few inches of snow capped off with freezing rain tomorrow. These critters were out in the front yard eating up before the storm.

    Where is Doc today?

He should be there and loaded up by now. Maybe he is grabbing some brews and some sleep before he returns.

Why I have been missing around here.

As some of you already know I have been undergoing some rather extensive testing the past month. Today the cancer doc took some bone and bone marrow out of my right hip. He is a big strong guy and let me tell you that needle must be BIG and strong. Of course he also had the nurse draw 4 more...

Wind is clearing the leaves out quick!

After days of rain we are getting some strong winds and the leaves are flying sideways. The only ones left will be the few that the frost did not hit.Gusts are over 40 mph.

Major flooding hitting central Pa. and NY

Folks are in a world of hurt anywhere along streams and rivers. Up here the reservoirs are filling up fast on the flood control lakes and one is already over the emergency spillway. East of me they are evacuating over 10,000 people in Binghamton as the Susquehanna goes to levels as high or...
