Default John Deere 316

Hi everybody,

I'm new to tractors, my dad had one when I was a kid, but I've been in the city for many years and pretty much forgot what little I knew.

We're getting a 2 acre lot out in the country, but it has a long driveway, and I'd like to take a half acre or so for the garden. We're trying to find a cheap tractor that we can use for lawn and snow plowing, but I'd like it to be powerful enough to help with some gardening. Would the JD 316 be a good fit for our needs or too much/too little?

Also, there's one for sale on our local craigslist for $975 with a 46 inch mower. I don't know the year, but it has 480 hours on a replacement engine by Linmar. Does this sound like a good price? I downloaded the "Second hand tractor buying guide" and will be using that when I go see it (thanks Mith if you see this!), but are there any other "gotchas" that I should be aware of?

I've just spent a couple hours on this forum, and I have to say "thanks" for all the good info. There's a lot to learn.
