I have an RTV 500 2012 and just noticed something dangling off the back. I recently just purchased the unit (used) and don’t know what it is hah. Nor where it should be attached.

that is the manual connection to the flux capacitor. if you hook it up and it isn't adjusted correctly when you put the machine in reverse you will go back in time and can never return. it only works in reverse.

how do you think i got here?

In the last picture, does that vertical bar next to the chain have a hole in it about the size that could take that linkage pin? Wondering if it just needs re-connected.

If you go to Messick's web site, there should be parts diagrams for the RTV which would show what gets connected to what.

Can you think of any reason? I’m planning on reconnecting again. If it makes any difference, I have tracks on it

The diff lock would have to be properly used with tracks. Any turns while locked would create bad binding which could do damage and would be a bugger to get released. My machine binds bad enough with wheels. That may be why it was disconnected. I use my diff lock only when I absolutely need it and I >>DO NOT<< make turns with it engaged unless wheels will easily spin. I sometimes have to back up to get it disengaged. Stay smart about it and you'll be ok. Being on tracks compounds the possibility of damage.

Yea, I'd be a little scared using diff-lock with tracks. If it were me, I'd connect the linkage back up but use the diff-lock cautiously. E.g. use it if/as needed going straight or climbing but if you're cornering, consider the turn angle, how loose is the surface... and see what's going provide the slippage needed. If you don't feel the tracks will cleanly slip on the surface, it means something on the RTV itself is going to take all the pressure.
