Does a John Deere 4040 with a synchro range transmission have a screen in addition to the hydraulic filter?

Yes there is a screen. It is located to the rear of the filter. A large round plug that has a 1/2" square hole for 1/2'' breaker bar. Remove the plug and the screen will slide out. Drain all the transmission oil first.

Thanks for the reply. I did find the screen- after my local Deere dealer told me it didn't have one!!!

I think I'd look for another mechanic!!
