Anybody else watching this?
I just now saw the midpoint of the transit here, N of San Francisco.
Los Angeles Times has a description of local times. Basically today (only), in the five hours before sunset, anywhere. That page includes a picture of what to look for.
Eye protection mandatory. I used an autodarken welding helmet and set it on slow return. Then waving my hand across it continually kept it switched dark. The Times says use a #14 welding filter so that's what I set the helmet to.
This is a rare event - it will be a century before another one.
