I look forward to helping anyone out who may have questions/comments regarding John Deere tractors. I might not have the answers, but I'll do my best to get them for you.
A little about me...I've been trying to farm (part time) on my own for the past 5 years. I grew up (well, I never really "grew up" so I guess I grew "older") working on a couple farms - my Grandfather's and his cousin's - and the only tractors they had were John Deeres. I suppose it's because of this that though I'm not a fanatic about John Deere, I am partial to the J.D. line.
I had a J.D. 4010 CUT (Compact Utility Tractor). It was great, but I needed alot more horsepower so I traded it in on a 40 year old 4020 (not a CUT - full size) 4 years ago. My real job is as a Quality Specialist in a factory (we make products for the Military and the Airline Industry) so I only get to play, er, I mean work, on my farm in the evening and on the weekends. Because I don't have the opportunity to wait until the weather cooperates, last fall I traded that in on a used 6410 with a cab. Wow. What a difference a stereo and heater make!
I also went to Iowa (would have been cheaper to buy locally but the "away" time was needed) and bought a 1946 and a 1951 J.D. A. I recently sold the '51, but plan to keep the '46 to hand down to my grandson (if my sons ever have time to make one...!). In addition I also have a 72 h.p. Case with a loader (don't want anyone to think I don't appreciate other tractors).
Please tell us about your experiences (whether good OR bad) with John Deere tractors.
