Hand Throttle Install RTV900

Ordered a Hand Throttle Kit thru Messick's last week. Installed it this morning. Took 20 minutes. Could do a second one in half that time. Pretty straight forward.

Kubota does a very good job of marketing option kits. They call them Whole Goods kits. And each has it's own specific number. If you spend some time on the Kubota.com parts site you can find the part number yourself, which is what I normally do. This kit was the 7th Whole Goods kit I have installed. I've never had a problem getting a bad kit. They always have had everything I needed and sometimes additional parts due to the kit fitting different models. The instruction sheet even has excellent photos to assist.

The Throttle Kit for the RTV900 is KTC-W/G-#V4241.

I'm kinda OCD about instructions as I get older. Keeps me from having to backtrack because I skipped something......

So I installed per instruction. Starting with the knob. You hafta knock out the slotted hole, then install the instruction sticker. Then remove the nut/washer from the knob end of the cable and thread it thru the hole, install washer/nut and tighten.

Next comes routing the cable. I tried to keep mine as high as I could and out of harms way.

My finger is on the throttle cable after installation at the knob end.

Next is routing and fastening the cable housing as it winds it's way across the top of the transaxle, around the rear of the engine and forward to the fuel injection pump. All brackets and hardware to do this are included.

Lastly attach the cable end to the fuel lever. Very easy connection with no modification of existing equipment required. It is visible in the picture as being right beside the red screw on the fuel pump lever. Spend a couple minutes adjusting the cable for proper operation and you're all set.

Only thing I found deficient in this kit is the knob. To adjust you push the button in on the end of the knob and pull to whatever setting you desire. Then if you want a finer tune of engine speed you twist the knob, screwing it outward for faster rpm, inward for slower rpm. The rubber cover on the knob assembly fits very loosely. You gotta grip it pretty hard to get it to screw outward. I peeled the rubber boot off the knob, cleaned the inside of it and the knob surface, smeared some tire patch glue on it and put it back together. Now when you twist the rubber cover, the knob turns without fail.

Tried it out in the timber today. Really like it. Increases torque dramatically. Can climb grades in M that required L before. Gives you the option of increasing rpms at the same HST speed. I like. :)

I put a hand throttle in mine probably 8 years ago. I live in hill country and it's used anytime I have to climb. Makes a huge difference.

Sure does.

My Brother has an L3240 HST+ tractor. It has "auto throttle" mode, which is exactly what RTVs have. He uses it in that mode most of the time. I never do. He has commented several times that I seem to get more useable power out of his tractor. I keep telling him to turn off the auto throttle and preset a desired rpm with the hand throttle. :)

I bought it thru Messicks, $76.65 for the kit, $15.75 shipping, total $92.40.

If you have a local dealer you could probably save the shipping cost.

My local dealer hit me for shipping costs for a thermostat and radiator hose when I told him to not make a special order for it but include it with his next order.

Yep, I had my dealer do that on some tractor parts. If I'm gonna pay shipping anyway, I might as well order online and it arrives at my shop, rather having to drive 50 miles to get it.

I'm all about shopping at home until they treat me like I'm not at home. Then I move on.

Messick's is showing p/n #V5241 for my 2006 RTV-X900W. The list of parts goes over $157. Guess I should call Messick's.

It is either 2006 or x900 but not both...?
Mine x900 kit v5241 was >$100 from Messicks, they had to order it from Kubota first
