OK, I’ve got my manual and have scanned through the process of replacing the front axle. I figured there was a chance the existing axle would not be salvageable and so I decided to order a replacement axle to have on hand in case I am unable to reuse the original one. I don’t want to pull this thing apart only to realize I need a new axle and have to wait for shipping. Since we’ve gotten this thing we use it all the time and now would be at a loss without it. I’ll probably put it up on the jack tomorrow and get started. I will be sure to take pictures and let you guys know how it goes.

I don’t know if I used the link but I found these demon axles and in hand it feels like a very nicely built product with very good reviews. We’ll see if it ends up going in or not.

Oh, make no mistake, it’s been running splendidly even without of four-wheel-drive. (Ive kept it out of four until I get this fixed) even with all of the hilly terrain around here and the site tires this thing goes up and down no problem.

Easy Peezy Lemon Squeezy

Okey-dokey, the installation of the new axle went fairly easily. I’m very impressed with the robustness of this particular part from Demon. I was able to switch the axle out without removing the knuckle completely as the WSM states is necessary. Once I had the lower control arm separated, I was able to maneuver the axle out of the differential and then able to remove it from the wheel knuckle without further disassembly. Upon inspection the axle had pulled out of the differential enough to allow the right side to spin freely while rounding off the end of the spline spindle causing the four-wheel-drive function to be inactive. Further inspection of the differential showed some rust and wear where the axle spindle rounded out the very end, but overall the internal splines were in relatively decent shape. I cleaned out the splines in the diff with a wire brush and piece of wire from a landscape flag and some Blaster spray. After that I was pretty satisfied that the differential was A-OK and begin re-installing the new axle. I fit it into the differential first and it mated quite well as the cir-clip snapped into place. After that it was relatively easy to reinstall the axle ito the knuckle and put it all back together. A quick run over to a steep damp hill on the property validated that the four-wheel-drive was indeed now functioning correctly, and it climbed the slope with ease once four-wheel-drive was engaged. Once again I’m impressed and happy with the quality and design of this machine. :a1:

The last couple pictures aren’t oriented correctly due to the vertical scope/ iPhone glitch thingy
