Tachometer Cable

Good afternoon all,

I just purchased a John Deere Model 2030, diesel engine, ser. #22xxxx, with roughly 59xx hrs. I have come to the conclusion that the tachometer cable isn't working. What through me was that the hour meter is still working, but the tach. isn't. I bought a new cable, removed the two batteries, and came to an abrupt halt. Do you have to remove that bloody battery holder somehow, or how do you get to the motor side of the cable. I have a technical manual, and an owners manual, even looked up the part, all to no avail. Could someone please shed some light onto how you change this blasted thing.

Thanks
Doug

I always use a small pair of channel locks
(maybe 4 inch) to loosen and tighten the lower engine side of the tach cable. If your hour meter is still working, I doubt a new cable will make the tach work. Probably the tach itself is bad.
