New Wheels for Old MTD

I'm new here, so bear with me.:hide:

Had a little problem getting the rear wheels off the old 1989, 18 HP, MTD.

Now, I'm having trouble finding new rims. Maybe you guys will have some suggestions?

Can't seem to find any with a 1" bore,1/4" keyway.

So, I thought about making adapters to be able to use small tractor wheels/ag tires.

Thanks gents in advance, for any advice!

My homemade wheel puller worked like a champ, until I got to the other side, that wheel broke away from the hub.

Started splitting on the backside, then..POP!:pat:

The damn thing broke fully away from the hub.

So now, I'm grinding axially through the hub, and it's still not budging even with hammer blows. Gottsa get a BFH today!

I've pulled lots of wheels at work, but never had one break apart like this guy.

Man o man. I've never seen one like that either. I do believe the BFH is your best bet at this point. Good luck.
And, welcome to Net Tractor Talk. I'm glad you signed up.
Enjoy and post often. :thumb: :D

good luck - and welcome to the forum!
I like the idea of pressing on a new hub that would allow for bolt on wheels - although on that side you may have to replace the half axle.

Still can't find any rims, even if I get this hub off. Google must be broken.

Came up with another contraption/puller for the hub. Somedays, my idea machine gets broke...just like Google.

My new puller idea worked just fine. Split the pipe and rewelded. Came right off.

Good thing I wasn't welding for a customer!

Keith Saves the Day!

I just wanted to thank you on this forum!

After almost 2 months of searching the Net, I found a guy who mailed out these wheels to a complete stranger, and now my old MTD is OFF the jackstands!:respect::cool:

My wife said you left a message, and she thanks you too.

She is probably tired of me bitching, about me breaking that rim.:pat:

Many thanks, Keith.:respect:
