Do Hydrostatic tranny's have "gear ratios"?

On another forum, someone asked the "gear ratio" on a vehicle with a hydrostatic transmission.

I've never heard of gear ratios in this type of tranny.

Well I guess you could compare the input (engine) rpm and the output (wheel) rpm with the transmission at full speed to give a gear ratio.
Ofcourse the main benefit of a hydro is that it is infinitely variable from 0 to that ratio between input and output rpm at full speed.

if you have a hydro with several gear ranges the gear ratio between the input and output rpm will be different in different ranges

It could be the person was referring to the gear ratio between the drive motor and the wheel. I have never seen a hydro drive directly bolted to a wheel flange without some sort of gear reduction.

Good question. My Hydro has L, M & H. Different speeds depending on which range I'm in. So, though it is different than a standard tranny it sure appears to me that they have gear ratios.
