How many years between oil filter changes

I am having trouble finding any firm source on this, and wanted to see if anyone has scientific or researched information on the subject (not opinion). The question boils down to the manual stating 200 hours on a HST Filter before replacement, but nothing on years. Currently we are averaging 50 hours a year on a Kubota X900 so the filter has 2 more years left on it at this rate. Thinking that they might not be designed for soaking in oil this long but you never know. May call a manufacturer next year if I can't find documented evidence.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and happy new year to all.

when you change the oil. there is a spec on that i think but i don't know "EXACTLY" what it is. most manufactures recommend annual oil changes if the hours aren't met.

Scientific/researched base info is rarely found on forums. Our practice: We recently changed oil and filter on a 900 purchased in June 2018. Will do every 2 years if hour usage number is not met. If unit was kept in a heated environment we would go much longer. But unit is kept in an unheated shed subject to condensation and hence water accumulation in the oil.
Best to follow Aurthuritis's comment.

Well, I called Wix. Tech department was not particularly warm and fuzzy but the response was that they have never tested longelvity and never will. They do say, however, that the filters have a 5 year Shelf Warranty. They also said that I must follow the manufacturers guidelines. When I told them that there was no indication of changing schedule other than 200 hours he said call them up. After some back and forth he said that they put in there documents no more than one year, but that that has never been tested on paper.

Easy enough to check if you want. Blackstone oil analysis will check your oil and send a big print out with more info than most can digest along with a recommendation of change it now or how much life is left in the oil. You send them 3oz of your oil and $35 (the price last time I tested, summer of 18) and a week or two later you get a detailed report. Below is a link to blackstone labs and a link to a great article on the oil testing process by Bob's the oil guy. Hordes of oil info at both of these sites. Let us know what you decide on please.

for extended drain times this is actually a really good idea. i used to do this when i has a fleet and once you get an idea of your service intervals you will be surprised hoe everything evens out to normal,as long as you stay with the same oil. but i also had a couple of cases where a completre change was indicated at less than book intervals. rule of thumb began to emerge was it it sits a lot then change the oil yearly because of moisture and settling additive degradation. running every day is actually better and usually get more service hours from that machine with less wear than one that sits. no science and a lot of opinion based on experience .

Thanks for the links. What I am on about is not oil quality but filter life expectancy. Two very seperate issues. and for further clarity is it an oil filter in a non combustive environment (Sealed Kubota RTVX Transmission and HST Pump).

i was not talking about engine oil but the Hydro stat. but to follow your way of thinking and focusing on the filter only i would still say that the filter will last as long as the oil. and just a little info< the transmission isn't sealed.

Filters are cheap. If you’re questioning it, I’d say it’s time to change it and get on down the road to find something else to think about.
