4230 Case IH Hydraulic malfunction

I have a 4230 Case IH that when I run it for about an hour all the hydraulics quit. ALL HYDRAULICS, pto, steering, brakes, etc. After 30 seconds to two minutes, everything comes back on. Changed oil and filter. Any ideas on what's going on? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you hear any unusual banging or knocking before they fail?

At around 20 years old, I'm wondering if some hoses are starting to leak and letting air in which causes aeration or cavitation.

Do you see any foaming in the fluid?

Do the controls become erratic before it quits?

Is your fluid level topped off? If it gets low, it can suck air in that way as well.

bczoom,

There's no noise of any kind before failure. Checked hoses, all appear to be in good shape.

No foaming in the fluid either.

Controls don't become erratic before failure.

Fluid is full. Topped off.

Thanks for the suggestions, any other ideas?

I'm perplexed!

What part of the country are you in? Heat could be another culprit. If your system gets hot (around 180°) things like this could happen. Is your reservoir and heat exchanger clear of dirt and debris?

Do you have an infrared thermometer you can shoot at the hyd components when you're experiencing a failure?
