my RTV900 is stuck in gear...only able to go Medium Forward. Shift lever is stuck in N position though. Have read a lot of posts about stuck transmission but not this problem specifically. What should I check? Where should I look?

Welcome to the forum!

So the lever is actually stuck in the neutral position but you can drive it as if it's in M range? Is the neutral safety being bypassed.

Sure sounds like a linkage issue.

Remove the top transmission cover and you will probably find a bent shift fork.

Or one that has jumped out of place.

Judging by your questions you may not be experienced enough to go exploring in a transmission.

You probably need a mechanic to assist you.

Yes there is a gasket under the cover.

It would be helpful to look at Kubota's parts book like this one;
http://www.kubota.ca/en/PartsCatalog.aspx?book=BKIDK1082
so you can see what is in there.

Manual would be good to have so you know how things are adjusted.

This will not likely be a simple fix.

In the second picture, 20 and 50 are the shift forks and it most likely one of these is bent/broken/unhooked from it's gear set.

Good Luck.

What does 50 do? Mine is missing that and seems to work ok. Should I be alarmed?

The diagrams are just one model year year of Kubota's 900 transmission.

Yours could be different.

One shift fork would be for reverse and low and the other for medium and high.

I'd have to check a manual to be sure which did what.

His issue is to take a look and see if that is the problem, and to check the linkages to make sure everything is moving as it should.

That's why a WSM and a mechanic is important. Understanding what is going on in the system is very important to finding what piece is the problem.

Good Luck. Hope you keep us updated. Helps other is the same thing happens to them.
