Default JD 1010 with rusty rings

I made the mistake of assuming the exhaust pipe going down into the manifold would keep out water. After a season of weather, the rain had gone down into the exhaust manifold and into #3 and #4 pistons. compression is down to 60 and 30. Any of you old-timers know how to "free up" those rings? I had 4 hours on the rebuilt engine. UGH!

If you can get to them, I'd suggest spraying them with Kroil.

X2, I've had good luck with PB blaster as well. Spray it in, let it sit overnight, roll it by hand first, if it's good and free, start it up. If that doesn't free it up, you may have to do it a few times. Unless they're totally caked with rust they should come free.

Give Marvel Mystery Oil a shot. I have a lot of old bikes that sit for really long terms. I put MMO in them and let them sit for a day or so then turn them over by hand first. They never fail to fire and I've have had no trouble with rings. Good luck though regardless what you do.
