Default My winch won't fit.

NOTE: I posted this in two different forums here on purpose. Reply to whichever one you see first. I'll find it. Thx

I bought a warn winch for my RTV 1140. I was having full service done by the dealer and asked them to install the winch. They said ok. But then call and said it won't fit. Said it would work on an RTV 1140x or any RTV 900x or 1120x etc., but not on my 09 1140. Crap.

I asked if they'd trade me for one that would fit, nope. So, I got a winch without a home. Since I have industrial tires on my tractor, I have been in some spots where a winch could help. Even with my FEL I could not get out of or get past some spots on my property.

My question, are winches okay to put on tractors? Do they make mounts for them or what???

Why not try a receiver mount if you have one. Store it under the hood and use it on either end.

Yep, receiver mounts give you more versatility. Down side is you need to rig up either a long cord with one plugin, or a plug in at each end.

Be careful about carrying your winch in either receiver. You might find yourself stuck with the winch buried.

Great idea. I had not considered that. Concerned as to whether or not I'd have room under the hood to store the winch ...but I love the idea.

I got the receiver mount for my Warn 4000 and then picked up a Master locking hitch pin that discourages two legged varmints from making off with it. I keep it attached to the front receiver until I need to move it. If anyone has a bracket or design for storing it under-hood, I would love to see that.

Doc

In this thread is how I built my receiver mount, wired it and how it fits under the hood of my 900. Plus some other good ideas from other members.
