My 2014 X900 had the transmission flange at the muffler bracket break and it took some argument to get them to cover under warranty. I had had it for several months and plenty of the warranty was left. At first they said someone must have stepped on the tailpipe!

I did not see any residue, but there may have been something. It was not going to come off without. a puller. Anti-seize is on it now!
