240D - front wheel locked up

Got it fixed I got the front end put back together this past weekend. I installed upper spindle seals, the large knuckle seals, upper bearings and short axle seals on both sides. Steers easier than it ever has since I bought it over seven years ago. Apparently as the upper bearings wear the...

240D - front wheel locked up

Found the problem I finally got a chance to tear down the locked up knuckle. The upper spindle bearing had disentegrated and some of the pieces-parts fell into the lower spindle gears causing them to jam. There was some minor scars on a couple of the teeth, but no major damage. It appears...

240D - front wheel locked up

Thx California. I had forgotten about Fredricks. I bought a voltage regulator from them a few years ago. Thx for the reminder. Point Four

240D - front wheel locked up

Thx California. I was afraid that there was no magic to be had on this. I will dig into it this weekend. I have bought a number of items from Hoye but I suspect that I will need Sheaffer's help on this one. Point Four

240D - front wheel locked up

After I finished using the tractor this weekend I decided to grease the tie rod ends. I raised the front end so that I could work the joints after putting in grease. 240 D steering problem

I know that there has been a time lapse, but its getting close to mowing time again. I did recieve a price from Sheaffer's for the ps conversion for my 240D. Its kind of pricey (I guess) but I'm still thinking about it. I remove the FEL when I mow because I have a lot of trees, etc. that I have...

    240 D steering problem

California, I used the bucket to lift the front end this weekend as suggested by Mark. The steering is incredibly easy and light, however, the play is more than I had noticed when the wheels are on the ground. With some experimentation I noticed that left turns are harder than right turns. At...

    240 D steering problem

Thx California. You describe my steering difficulties better than I did. I will do as Mark suggested. I learned a couple of years ago to watch the front tire pressures. I have diamond tread turf tires that have a pretty good foot print even at full inflation. Point Four

    240 D steering problem

Thx Mark. I will try this over the weekend. The steering wheel has less than 6" of play. I am going to order a new drag link since the ball joits on each end are severely worn. Point Four

    240 D steering problem

I have a yanmar 240 D with the factory FEL. The steering is very hard, particularly when the FEL is attached (even un-loaded). I have replaced the tie rod ends (not much improvement). Even without the FEL attached the steering is difficult. Any ideas or suggestions?
