New Rear U Joints Needed-- Again

When the same U-joint went out on my '04 at around 1,200 hours, and the carrier bearing went with it, I installed the Kubota upgrade to the 1 piece drive shaft like the newer models have. It was clearly a better design and it wasn't a difficult modification. The kit is pretty complete. I'm at...

    RTV vs BX snow plowing

Yes. You asked, here they are: After thinking about it for a few days, I think the BX is by far the best machine, of the two pictured, to plow the driveway. It was designed, and it's drive train was optimized, to push and pull heavy loads, loads not on wheels, as it's normal job. Pushing...

    stopped smoking but,why??

The breather on mine, 2004, vents to the atmosphere through a hose that takes it down near the bottom of the engine. On yours it goes to the intake manifold. It also has some sort of valve or compensation device in the valve cover. You might take that out and make check that it's clean and...

    sluggish transmissin rtv900

You didn't say what year it is. Mine, a 2004, had deceleration that was remarkably quick - hazardous truth be told. A person that wasn't prepared for it might be unseated. A few months after we bought it, Kubota came out with kit to install that moderated the deceleration and made it tolerable...

    stopped smoking but,why??

I don't think there should ever be pressure stored in the crank case to the point it 'exhales' when you remove the oil filler. That has never happened on mine and I always run it until it's hot before I change the oil. It sounds to me like the breather tube could be plugged. The breather is...

    Another newbie owner

Your spark arrestor and mine are identical. I didn't clean mine for ten years (just shy of 2,000 hours). Didn't realize it needed cleaning until I joined this forum. I'll take it out every spring and clean it now that I know about it. Your machine looks really good. Nicely set up, only 250...

    RTV900 thermostat housing

That was a neat trick. Keep a close eye on it until you have it through a few thermal cycles to be sure it doesn't leak. Fitch

Don't reuse the head gasket. Run time is irrelevant, what's important is that you have already torqued it once. Fitch

Problems w/'06 RTV900 off eGag.. coolant first

Pictures of the same location on my 2004. It looks the same as the one on Collie's machine, just older. The hose looks worse than it is - what you see is paint deterioration. Apparently the engine was assembled, then painted with that hose in place. Fitch

Problems w/'06 RTV900 off eGag.. coolant first

It desperately needs an air filter. Do what you have to do to fix that immediately. Diesel engines do not do well with dirt at all. With my '04 I frequently run into situations where parts have been upgraded. The new parts are the way to go. Fitch

    Another Coolant Leak

I would definitely like it, but the way the RTV is used in the woods, the windshield would be scratched into opacity or broken. I've survived 10 years without it, but hearing about it makes me jealous, at least a tiny bit.

    Another Coolant Leak

I am so jealous of your cab. It was a tropical 8F here this AM with a breeze. Driving into the wind I thought my face would fall off and shatter into tiny pieces. I was just glad the RTV started and ran - the stalls need to be cleaned regardless of temperature.

    Another Coolant Leak

I agree, replacing the hoses is a good move. I've never removed a water pump. When I head for the barn to feed the horses I'll take a look at the access. Looking at the RTV900 Workshop Manual, I think you can get at it if you do the disassembly shown on pages S18 and S19. What they suggest on...

    Another Coolant Leak

I'm sorry to hear of your problems. My 2004 RTV is one of the best equipment purchases I ever made. It was early production model (Purchased June 2004. It was the 3rd. one the local dealer sold) and had some teething issues (it would almost pitch an unsuspecting passenger over the hood if the...

    Another Coolant Leak

Now you know why I don't take mine to the dealer, for anything. Scheduled maintenance I do myself. Front CV-Joints, new bed, replace 2 piece front drive shaft with a one piece front drive shaft, electrical problems, just do it myself. I don't let those clowns touch it. The parts department is...
