    My Dairy Farm Homestead

Shimp, Nice looking operation!! I'm just curious, how do you feed... I don't see any silo's or anything, just your grain bins... do you feed all hay? My Grandpa/Uncle's farm that I grew up on is about the same size... we usually stayed in the 90-110 range in the milking herd and probably 100...

    Don't you hate it when...

Maybe it is... I just checked the new pvc, and the threads are leaking where the ball valve screws onto the thread adapter:wtf: :mad2: :pat:... Looks like I'll have to take it all apart again, re-wrap the threads with teflon tape, and put it all back together again... This has become so...

    Tractor improvements

So far, I've just added the obligatory bucket hooks to my Mahindra 3525. I did a big writeup about welding them on back on that other tractor site, if anyone's interested... Welding Bucket Hooks Next planned mods are some loops back on the 3ph arms to store lynch pins when not in use, and...

It's time to ask that question! :)

I've got an old manure spreader sitting out back that I could decorate up like that! Hmmmmm....

    Don't you hate it when...

Don't you hate it when a simple little project turns into a big headache project?? Here's my latest... Last week, my wife found a bunch of water laying in the bottom of the bathroom cabinet. OK, no big deal. Look under the sink, all the drain pipes and water lines are DRY, even after running...

So what do you guys do?

    HD bucket for ML106 loader

Dougster, Mahindra/Buhler got it right on the ML230 that is on my 3525. That bucket is just right. It's not super heavy, but, I would have to abuse it pretty bad to tear it up. Just the way it should be with a "standard" bucket. :thumb: MahindraUSA, you guys got it right on that one! On...

    overseeder

Very nice!! I sure could use one of those! Is the "rotor" under the hopper ground driven, or PTO driven where it actually digs into the soil? It's kind of hard to tell for sure from the photos, but it looks to be ground driven. And, I'm interested too in how you have built your metering...

    HD bucket for ML106 loader

Brian, you did the same thing I did for bucket hooks on my 3525, except I cut the eyes completely off. That, and with a little massaging with Mr. 9 Inch Grinder, and I had a set of Bona Fide Weld-On bucket hooks, nearly identical in profile to the "real" weld on hooks. I used Grade 43 hooks...

    for those that don't know...

Brandi, No, not exactly, our TR's run both the core and bypass flow through the cascade vanes. That way, everything gets hot and sooted up! Gotta love that! Overall the TR's work pretty well... they're a little slow to deploy (pneumatically powered), but once they finally deploy, you can...

What machine started it all for you???

I pretty much grew up on my Grandpa's/uncle's dairy farm. Mom and Dad live 1/2 mile down the road, so it was nothing for me to just head out the door and walk or ride my bike down to the farm, and I was there almost all the time. Here's a list of the tractors we had on the farm: IH Farmall...

    for those that don't know...

I'm not exactly sure why they were doing it... but, the Lear 55 doesn't have buckets... we've got blocker doors and cascade vanes (Aeronca TR's). They can be kind of finicky at times with all the limit switches such... I'd assume that they were trying to replicate a failure to stow...

Once you try it you will want one!

I'd like to get an air powered version... I don't need the ultra-portability of the electric or want any more battery packs that will go bad in a year or so. I've been getting by with my manual grease guns, but, when you get one of those zerks that you need a 3rd hand to hold everything in...

What have you broken this year?

Tore up the PTO shaft on my finish mower this past summer when using it on my 8N. The 3PH on the 8N sometimes gets a mind of its own to just raise up to it's maximum travel even though you don't have the position control lever set anywhere near that. So anyway, I'm mowing grass, and just...

    for those that don't know...

I wish we could power back the Learjet... that would come in handy at times at some of the remote airports we go to that don't have a tug big enough to move us around. The AFM/Ops Manual forbids it... from what I hear, too easy to put the ac back on it's tail, although I've seen the mechanics...

    HD bucket for ML106 loader

PB, Yep, I think we've decided that we're going to weld a piece of angle across the top edge... we were also looking at trying to beef up the cutting edge as well... it's a little too "flexible", although it hasn't bent yet. It does flex noticeably  when carrying big chunks of wood from...

    Tractor usage

Brandi, Did you ever get your PPL (private pilot's license)? I always wanted to get my A&P, but I wanted to fly more, and I was always afraid (and rightfully so) that if I had both A&P and Pilot certificates, I'd be stuck on the ground turning wrenches more than I'd be flying... especially if...

    for those that don't know...

Brandi, Where you taxiing single engine? And, why do you taxi with anti-skid off? I'm not familiar with B737 systems. On the LR-JET (Lear 55), you can taxi with anti-skid off or inop, but you're limited to 10 knots taxi speed maximum. ;) Takeoffs are optional... Landings are MANDITORY...

    Tractor usage

Dougster, Naw, it's nothing like that... I live about 3 1/2 miles from a little town of 350 people. I could just drive the tractor into town... and, the biggest houses might have a 2 car garage. I was just figuring that I could clear the average "driveway" there in town in about 3 to 5...
