An improved shot of the chipper, a Vermeer BC1000XL. An abused machine formerly owned by an OH power company. Looks OK from a distance, chips as it should.

My tops will be stuffed into the chipper. Have no need for mulch so the chips will blown into the woods.

    Pictures Post Them Here!

Fortunately I located a forester who cut and removed just the Ash Trees. The mill credit was just enough to cover the logging charge. Now I am dealing with the tops.

    Leaking gasket.

1200 hrs on a clock that appears to be functioning. Wrenched again on 3 gear cover bolts (filter side of the engine), turned a few degrees more. Seeping seems a bit less so it will remain as is until the water pump needs replacing. What is the best way to test engine mount integrity? I...

    Leaking gasket.

Thanks I just flooded the suspicious area with brake clean and went for a short drive. Used an inspection mirror to be certain, but its seeping at the gear case bolt closest to the alternator, just below the thermostat housing. Put a socket wrench to that bolt and was able to give it a half...

    Leaking gasket.

Yes. The oil covers the engine block area behind the water pump, down the side of the engine but stops just above the oil pan lip.

    Leaking gasket.

Checked the tightness and actually found 1 loose bolt. Odd there are no signs of previous work in that area. Washed the area with brake cleaner, will take a few rides to confirm its fixed. There is another leak that appears to be coming from the engine gear cover gasket. The filter side of the...

    Leaking gasket.

To all, Since installing the new head assy this RTV900 has been running great. Ample power to climb the hills with no loss of oil or coolant. Now the next issue....seems that the gasket to the RANGE GEAR ARM is seeping trans fluid. What sort of trouble may I encounter by raising this mechanism...

    found trv

Thanks but I don't own a welder. Taking this to a local weld shop would likely result in a charge equal to a new guard. In this area (DC Metro)we are subject to the NVA tax where everything costs 50% more than most other locations.

You could straighten this Peanut. Best I could do is bend the other side to match. :) Notice how the passenger side is pushed back.

A brush guard would be nice. Mine is bent where it cannot be straightened...where it bolts to the chassis. This OEM guard has poor quality welds IMO.

    Crap Sums it Up

^^^Agree^^^ Considering the robust construction of this engine and diesels in general I am thinking it may tolerate more abuse, compared to a gasoline version of equal HP. Seems like a common complaint on this forum is lack of power on hills...I thought the same. But I was comparing this RTV...

If this repair fails at some point I may try this. For now its working like a new RTV.:dancing:

    Crap Sums it Up

Another Update Installed a new Kubota OEM head assembly, head bolts and valve stem caps. The head gasket was sprayed with K&W Copper Coat, just the side which contacts the block. The head gasket is aftermarket, thicker than the previous gasket. Chased all the threads with a bottom tap, oiled...

    Nice Weather Finally!

45 degrees and windy at the moment in VA. This weather is keeping gnats in hiding. Allows time to get stuff down outdoors before the nuisance begins. Some insect sprays work for awhile but the brave ones attack anyway.

    Crap Sums it Up

Thanks You would think that among all those engines a d902 would be buried in there. I have contacted them a couple of weeks ago, but no luck.

    Crap Sums it Up

^^^AGREE^^^ The head has a visible crack and is warped so its a door stop. I will bolt on a replacement head and test. If it does not run hot or loose coolant it will remain as is. Otherwise I will dismantle this engine and transfer what is salvageable to a new OEM block. More updates as...

    Crap Sums it Up

Agree^^^ Actually a rebuilt is $4K. Applying a $1K core credit (after tear down inspection) its $3K. Kubota RTV used parts are crazy expensive IMO. One highly rated ebayer lists a number of heads (902 pulls not rebuilt) for $750 yet another lists used but reconditioned for $800. Who would...

    Crap Sums it Up

Thanks! Opinions are appreciated. I have researched engine swap possibilities. There is a slight length difference between the d902 and 1105. I have not found a diagram with sufficient clarity, it appears to be where the engine mates with the transmission. Searched online for someone who has...
