    Tracks!! Tracks!! Tracks!!

It's more than a "cabin trip". Ruby, Alaska is Mama's hometown, so we need the ability to make daytrips throughout the winter. She has lots of friends and family there. It's about an 1 1/2 hr ride, two-up, on a snowmachine. Ten hours round trip is to much window time to have coffee with Auntie...

    Tracks!! Tracks!! Tracks!!

Been looking for a decent snocat for years. Most are complete junk, which is not what you want around here. A mile out of the village is total wilderness with all the critters that want to eat yer azz. Not fun walking at night with a half dozen wolves tracking you. Anything that's any good is...

    Tracks!! Tracks!! Tracks!!

Try to address everyone in one reply. Alaskanassasin, your not hijacking, your helping. My Prowler turned ok without power. I never forced it so not to cause damage to the steering. I really think power steering would be a problem if you didn't allow things to turn freely. I already understand...

    Tracks!! Tracks!! Tracks!!

Mama wants the creature comforts of the heated cab and stereo. She budgeted me enough for tracks and a Boss V-plow and then I'm cut off from the "toy fund".

starting the kubota 1100 in cold weather

Not much north of me but Barrow, they're not interested. Although it's only 25 below there, but the wind is howling. If you can spare 10 degrees I'll be good.

    Tracks!! Tracks!! Tracks!!

I know it's been covered before and I've looked through the archives, but not finding what I need. I'm getting rid of my snow machine, Mama says she's not up to the cold anymore, so thinking of tracking up the old 1100. I've ran tracks before on a Prowler(TJD tracks) and wasn't real fond of...

40 below this morning. Forecast 48 below tomorrow. Hope you lower 48'ers understand the sacrifice I'm making so your hiney's are frost free.

    Shuts off intermittently

Early models of Kubota's have a "bottom draw"(actually side draw). Not sure about newer models. This is a totally crap way to draw fuel. It allows better usage of the total tank volume, but any water(which becomes ice) plugs the inlet. Had this problem with a early 1100C we used at the mine...

starting the kubota 1100 in cold weather

At $.70 a kwh, I don't run the block heater very long. The city had a meeting last night, discussing utility rates, and a buck a kwh is a possibility, which is the rate in many of the other villages in Alaska. May rig up quick connectors and use my hydronic wood boiler for engine heating. A...

starting the kubota 1100 in cold weather

My Bota is the only transportation I currently have in the village, so cold starting is a must. I've started it as low as -15 without using the block heater. It seems to start better if I cycle the glow plug and start 3 or 4 times. Glow, then run starter for a short time and repeat. The idea is...

    58 degrees here yesterday

My cold weather ran away again, 22 above all night. Should be 30 to 40 below. I'm sure it went to visit you lower 48'ers again.

    Starting issues got me stumped!

put some "heat" or methanol in after you get the engine warm and the water won't freeze again. The clearance between the starter ring gear and housing is very small. Doesn't take much water to freeze the gear to the housing.

    Starting issues got me stumped!

Turn on headlights and hit the starter. If the lights dim, your starter is engaging. I suspect freezing of the starter driven gear also. Ran into this more than once in Alaska. Btw thanks to all you 48'ers for taking custody of our cold for awhile. You're welcome to it for as long as you like...

    Snow Blower Ordered

Thank you very much for the reply and understand your reasoning. I maintained a rural airport in Alaska and wished many times I had a blower to remove the berm along the runway lights. The downfall of blowers, from my experience, was hard objects shearing pins including chunks of ice.
