    Gettin' in over our head.....

Not really much of a way to do a vapor barrier on the ground. No matter what we do, the goats would probably tear it up. We will have the "bubble wrap" vapor barrier on the roof, but that is probably about it unless we ever get to do walls and interior ceiling. Even building this barn has been...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Yesterday was one of those days that visually it doesn't look like they got much done. But the got the double 2x10s up at the top and all of the bracing for the trusses. They put a 2x6 the length of the 2x10s where each truss will set and the another 2x6 beside that that goes up to give each...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

We were able to get started with the new barn on Friday. I thought they made pretty good progress. All the poles were set/plummed. Then most of the wall purlins were put up. Everything went pretty well, except drilling the first hole. It was pretty wet and went the auger went in, it went down...

    PTO engagement

I would look to make sure nothing is stuck in the levers. I've had sticks jump up there and wedge between the levers and lock them in place. If I'm just puttering around the yard I won't necessarily wear the seat belt, I've also had it drop down there and catch on the levers.

    Husqvarna Transaxle

Yep, that is kind of my thinking. Eventually they would like to move up to something a bit larger (they have 2 acres) but just now starting to understand the concept that the box store "tractors" are pretty much throwaway.

    Husqvarna Transaxle

We were camping this weekend with our 4-H group and right as we were getting ready to leave, one of the advisors asked her husband what part he needed for his lawn mower/garden tractor. Without knowing specifics, it is a Husqvarna either garden tractor/lawn mower, don't know the model. I'm...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

We ended up deciding on going with the guy that with the 36x54. His price did include ridge and soffit vents and the "bubble wrap" for the roof. He is scheduled to start next Thursday at this point - subject to change if he gets a rain delay. To save him (and ultimately us) a few $, he was going...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Getting real close to pulling the trigger on the barn. So far I've only talked to the guy on the phone, so I want to meat him in person and go over everything with him and make sure we are on the exact same page. We had budgeted around 15k for the barn and we were hoping to do 40x60. I started...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

We've got our first customer. They are supposed to bring a Boer do by tomorrow afternoon and drop her off to breed with our new Boer Buck. She will probably be here for 3 - 4 weeks. This will be our first "income" other than the money the kids have gotten for selling their goats at the fair...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Yep, that is in the quote. Depending on what the builder is comfortable with, we are either talking the panels in the roof or 2 foot on the side walls. I don't know which is better, but I want to do whatever the builder is comfortable with and will warranty. The last thing I want to do is get...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

A couple more pics I forgot about and another quick story. Both kids also competed in Showmanship. Keagan finished second in his class, but the first place passed so he was eligible to compete in Showman of Showmen contest where they had to be able to show all the other breeds of animals: Meat...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Oh, we also did a thing where the public was allowed to try their hand at milking a goat. Here is the 1st Attendant of the Queen's Court trying to milk Midnite. It was amazing how many people didn't realize that you could milk a goat.

    Gettin' in over our head.....

We are still going with our goats. I've started calling around getting estimates for a barn. Hoping to do a 40x60, but that is going to be really pushing the budget. Might have to scale it back a bit so I can have some money left for the inside and such. We had a pretty time at the county fair...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Again, I need to get a few more pictures, but we are still going at the goats. We've bought a few more including a couple of LaManchas and some Toggenburgs. Up until this morning we had 17. We lost one of the new Toggs. She was only 4 months old and has been moved 3 times and I think all of the...

    Tz22da oil

I have a TC-24D, but I would assume they spec the same oil. I typically buy the 10W30 Ambra, but I did buy some 10w30 from Napa when I first got it. I was more expensive than the New Holland oil. I've since found Rural King carries Shell Rotella 10w30 diesel oil. I've bought a jug of it, but...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Thought I would post a quick status of how we did at the dairy show. Our 1 year old placed 3rd in the youth show, 2nd in the 1st ring of the open show and then 1st in her class for the 2nd ring. She then took Grand Champion in the second ring. The little doe took first in her class in the first...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

I need to grab some more pictures of the goats. But we are still going at this. Between the heart attack slowing me down and a lack of finances we probably won't get our barn this year, but we will make do with what we have. I've also been trying to get our chicken coop finished, again that...

    First mow of the season

I ended up mowing probably around the 24th or 25th of April. It needed it before that, but with having a heart attack on April 10th, it didn't get it. I still haven't push mowed or trimmed. Maybe this coming Sunday.

    Han-d Pump

OK guys it has taken me awhile but I finally found it. I'm still using the Harbor Freight pump that I posted it earlier, it is still working great, but only for diesel. That is the only thing I use for diesel. I was on another forum and forum and we were talking about gas cans and the...

    Gettin' in over our head.....

Yes, our kids will be showing them. My oldest daughter will be showing the 2 older Alpines. She will also be showing the Boer that you see and then a wether that isn't home yet. Then my son will be showing the doe that was just born. He will also be showing another Boer doe and a market wether...
