    Using a trencher questions

Hell no, Doc. "Best laid plans" and all. It finally stopped raining here yesterday. When I went to the rental place earlier this week, Monday I think it was, he asked me if the area was wet. I said sure, it has standing water on it now because it's been raining so much. He told me I'd be...

    Using a trencher questions

1/4" per foot? That seems like a lot of drop. Even sewage pipes are only 1/4" per 4'. At least around here. I thought I read somewhere 6" - 12" per 100' when I was Googling trench drains. Anyway, I know I could get fall over to the swamp, but I want to bury the pipe in the swamp so it drains...

    Using a trencher questions

I'd like to be doing it this weekend, Doc, but I'm too swamped at work. I sure don't want the ground to soften up anymore than what it is, but it will.... It's about 10 degrees cooler here, but it sure felt warm enough all day. Very humid and calling for thunderstorms the next few days.

    Using a trencher questions

Well the gravel will be here Monday, so things are moving along. I'll be picking up the pipe today. Hopefully we don't get hit with too much rain over the next few days.

    Using a trencher questions

I don't know exactly where the water comes from, Frank. The sky? If you look at my first pic, which was taken from the road, you can see that the wet area sits lower than both the road and the land where the treeline is (which is where a creek runs). There's clay in this area about two ft down...

    Using a trencher questions

Thanks Doc. I figure if I get it stuck..... well.... I'll take pics! (lol). I've got a 4WD one lined up for Mon afternoon through Tues. Hopefully I can talk the place I get gravel from to get their rear in gear. They were pretty much just opening today when I called them. The co-op has the pipe...

    Using a trencher questions

Thanks for replying, Erik. I thought the deeper the pipe, the more land on either side it pulled moisture from. Like if it was only 12" deep I would need branches out either side, but if it was deeper I wouldn't. A farmer out here told me that, but like I said, if I go too deep, like I want to...

    Using a trencher questions

Here's a couple pics. Sorry for the quality, it's early yet. An overall shot. The area I want to trench runs from close to my well, on the right, to the left past that swamp area. Right where you can just make out the greener grass past the long shadow. And, the swamp. It looks pretty level...

    Using a trencher questions

I need to get some drain pipe into certain areas of my yard that I can barely mow even when it hasn't rained in a while. I've been checking into one of those walk behind trenchers. I'd like to rent it now, thinking that it won't sink into the bad areas because of the frost still in the ground...

    New guy from Pa.

Very nice. I love homemade projects. I'm up by Erie.

    New street bike

The only thing I don't like about liquid cooled is the fan kicking on. Very noisy when you're just sitting there. You need it though when you have an engine designed to close tolerances.... keep telling yourself that when you're sitting next to your airhead buddies (lol). I do it all the time.

    New street bike

Interesting looking bike. I just read up on it and it sounds pretty nice. A sport bike with an upright riding position. Nice. We're into March, so hopefully not much longer....

    emergency lighting

Thanks for the review. I went ahead and purchased a couple emergency lights from Amazon that were rated high, same style. They're enough to see to get around with, but not as bright as I was expecting. I guess you can only expect so much with the long run time.

    Mailbox options

I wish I still worked in a sheetmetal shop. I'd love to build one out of plate and I could make it look like a typical box. I'm leaning on looking for something more on the lines of solid. Very solid.... not something that moves. It had to have taken a lot of force to snap that post and it...

    Mailbox options

Do I have any? A couple years ago I invested in a nice aluminum mailbox to the tune of 80 bucks. Real solid. I then bought a scroll saw and some 2" roughcut and manufactured a dog of sorts out of the mailbox. All's well until last night. Someone tried to steal it and when they couldn't they...

    FIRE!!

Here's a pic I took last summer of my neighbor's "little" burn. He waited until dusk to light it and it had every volunteer fireman in the township pulling into his driveway to see what the hell was on fire for about 2 hours before word spread (lol). It was an old homemade garden shed and took...

    FIRE!!

That's a fire alright. I've got a large brush pile going that I need to torch one of these days. I'll probably start it in the morning so I don't have to babysit it all night. After a good rain or maybe even with snow on the ground. It's too far away for hoses.

Home made weight for a Kubota.

Here's my cheapo counterweight, also around 400+ lbs. I don't use it anymore so it sits (if anyone is close to Erie, PA, you can have it). When I traded in my 7500 for a 3130 the dealer said that if I got my tires loaded I wouldn't need a counterweight. He was right. I've had over 800 lbs on a...
