    Managing a Burn Pile

I know that some of you do this all the time, but this is new territory for me. Looks like a couple of my early jobs in the new digging season will include this component. Up here in the People's Republic it takes all kinds of daily permits & permissions, time limitations, size limitations...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

I believe my elevation here is about 110 feet (town average... I am slightly higher). The Boston stations are hedging their bets again. Some say plowable snow likely... others are thinking more on the sleet and rain side. As always, I am right on that rain/snow line in most forecasts. :rolleyes...

    My little ranch

Give me the cold, bone dry stuff anytime! :thumb: I can deal with the drifting. It's the hard packing and freezing of the saturated wet stuff that causes the most grief for moi! Dougster :starbucks:

    Bigger Section 179 Deduction

I know well of Section 179 deductions and was able to use them to good advantage (under the existing rules/limits) on my 2006 tax return. Unfortunately, the business is showing a net loss for this past year (2007) so Section 179 buys me nothing other than an ability to carry forward 2007's...

    Hijacked!

Never thought I'd end up a "ditch digger" at this point in my life... but it's a fact. :o Ya do what you've got to do. :( It's reassuring to know that I can go back to an office at anytime and resume a career that paid quite well... but it's not what I want to do. Just got a call yesterday for a...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

No magic number yet Tim. :o Nothing but nuisance snow. :unhappy: So it's still gruel and 55 degrees at Dougster Manor. :( Maybe a billable snowfall by the end of the weekend, but I am not holding my breath. Dougster :starbucks:

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

Sorry there Kid. :( I know it goes with the territory. If you want the fame, fortune and glory that goes along with being a snowplow guy... you've got to give up a lot too. Dougster :starbucks:

    Hijacked!

The little kids think I'm funny. :) They kinda ask themselves "Who is this crazy old man shaped like Santa Claus and what on earth is he doing in our backyard with a big red tractor??? At least that's the look I see on their faces!!! ;) Dougster :starbucks:

    Equipment Trailer Weights

I know... I know... It should have been obvious. But after seven salesmen in a row gave me the same exact speech, I started to doubt myself. :o This is the place to get the straight scoop! :thumb: Dougster :starbucks:

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

Looks like the old Dougster ain't going anywhere today as this snow continues to fall and depths approach the plowing trigger point. I'm sure I'll have to plow at least some steep driveways. It's just as well... I am behind on everything here today anyway. Dougster :starbucks:

Skid Steer Adapter for my ML106

A very good move PB!!! :thumb: I doubt you will regret spending the money. :) Just make sure the latching mechanism is well-lubed and functions properly... and that fit with your attachments is good. All of my previous problems were due to worn and/or defective parts. Dougster :starbucks:

    Equipment Trailer Weights

Thanks Larry. But the real issue for today remains gross discrepancies... and I'm getting the feeling this is an equipment salesman's standard scam. Tell folks their stickered trailer weights are way exaggerated so you can sell the fool a heavier machine. I think you know the reason. It expands...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

The old Dougster remains smack dab in the middle of another one of these endless nuisance snow events... the kind I hate worst of all. :( I need to attend the Mass Grows show in Boston today... but I hesitate to leave home lest this nuisance snow suddenly achieve more intensity and more than 2"...

    Equipment Trailer Weights

Yep... that's for sure. But it sounds like you haven't encountered any gross discrepancies, and that's really what I'm asking about. I think these equipment sales folks are simply full of BS... just trying to convince me that I can legally tow their ~8,000 lb machine even though the numbers...

Hartford Construction Show (a.k.a., "Conex CT")

Thanks Buck! Just signed up for "Landscape Construction" Magazine. I already get a bunch of other construction trade magazines, small business magazines and mechancal engineering journals... but this one looked interesting! :) I'll check it out! :thumb: Dougster :starbucks:

Oh Lordy! What will Jay do??? What will I do??? Do you want Jay to go stir crazy and me to starve??? :o Oh the joy of the monthly progress meeting. :o Gotta tell you... I don't miss them at all. :yum: Is it Friday already??? Dang!!! I'm still working on...
