    Here's a "Talk About Anything" - II

I’m curious about when folks say oil degrades with time. I had a pallet-load of Mobil “Red-Band” SAE 50 aircraft oil given to me by a distributor who was retiring. (It was a lot easier for him to give it to me than it was to try to dispose of 50 gals of unused motor oil.) That oil was last...

    Speed

If you wanted Speed….. you should have bought a Kawasaki. You have a damn fine and reliable work horse…not a race horse. You will never find success making an RTV faster than about 25 mph. Tops.…and at the expense of dependability.

    Winches

My little RTV-X900 came with a cute little 4500 lb WARN Winch w/synthetic rope and Hawse. And a remote. I COULD NOT WAIT to have the opportunity to use it . Seven years now. Still have not found a single reason to use that winch. ( I once thought I‘d have some fun to pull a big log out of...

    X1100 power window conversion

If that kit had been available back in 1977… I’d still be driving my ‘76 F-150! (Well… except for the fact it was also standard on-the-column 3-speed shift and no power steering!) LOL One of the dumbest things I did as a young man was to special-order my first new pickup truck…. I wanted it...

    Oil change blunder

Hydraulic oil is a low-viscosity oil (SAE 10-20) with anti-friction and temperature stabilizers Your engine oil is a 10W30 multi-viscosity oil (behaves predominately as SAE 10) with anti-friction, dispersant, and temperature stabilizer. Both sometimes contain conditioners for oil seals and...

    change mph to kmh

FRENCH… is one of the goofiest civilizations one can imagine. Their legal system is a mixture of Medieval, Mystery, and Revenge and their Gov’t is also. There’s an excellent illustration in humor: A group of Int’l Ambassadors was asked “What if the UN managed Heaven…and Hell..?” The group...

    change mph to kmh

I agree. I cannot wrap my mind around metric, despite the logic of that system… it simply doesn’t compute. The closest I can get to fathoming (pardon the pun) metric…is to consider a meter is basically a yard…. after-all… How does metric work with miles? or Nautical Miles..?? Ans: It...

    Strange Issue

In most applications, the filter will be immediately downstream of the pump,…so if any parts get picked up by the pump it will immediately be filtered-out before it gets to machinery. This is why most pumps also have a “pick-up-screen”…to prevent parts from being introduced to the pump... So...

Sheiks used peacocks as security/alarm systems for the harems. Most of the harem-members I’ve seen didn’t need protection however.

    Air in power steering line

If the steering is smooth and not “jumpy”…. you don’t have air in the line. Plus if there WERE air in the line…it will self-purge after driving awhile.

    Kewl RTV add on's

The roll-cage/ROPS still should protect them from”crush”…but they’ll likely bump their heads. I INSIST on my grandkids wearing the seat belts and I’m aware that pax back there also raise the center-of-gravity…so side roll-over angles are diminished…. A ”rumble-seat” is fine for most uses...
