    Seat belt - use it?

I do use my seatbelt. Had tractors for years that didn't have them and was always worried "what if?". I catch myself forgetting to put it on now and then, but when I am doing any work around terraces or slopes, or that involves a load that could shift, I make darn sure it is on. I don't move...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

What is snow, exactly? I'm too young (56) to remember it.:smartass: :yum:

    Hijacked!

The first one did name me, then made sure this one called me Ga-ga as well. I shouldn't have insisted on Grandpa, but it's kind of funny how proud I am when they call me that. Someday they'll get "too old" and sophisticated to call me that, sadly. Time flies whether you're having fun or not...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

Dang, I remember the 100 mg days of Pred. I would laugh and then cry for no reason. Have been on the "maintenance" dose of 7 mg per day for about 8 years now, but I still hate it. Still have some side effects like greasy face, pimples :nocomment:, and the famous prednisone "hump" on my back. I...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

I can safely say that prayers are what worked for me. Fortunately, I didn't have diabetes; I "only" had kidney disease in the one kidney I was born with. Back in 1978, when they weren't doing many transplants and cyclosporine hadn't been invented yet, Dr. told me that I would be on dialysis...

    Hijacked!

Came out and found that my tractor had been hijacked by this little monster. Can't figure out how she reached the pedals, though. She is my youngest granddaughter (almost 3 now) and has a proud "GaGa". ;) Lesson: Don't insist they call you "Grandpa" when they first learn to talk. :pat: I just...

    Linux

Ubuntu seems to be the distro of choice in these parts. I used to have a box with Mandrake on it but don't have a Linux box right now. Both Linux and Mac have gained in popularity since the release of Windows Vista. I notice the major computer makers like Dell have backed off not offering XP any...

    Think we A'skert 'em off????

Not to hijack the thread back to the original subject, but... Funny this statement was in there. I am Texas born and raised and southern to the bone, but when I had to have a kidney transplant 9 years ago, it came from a man in Ohio whose family donated his organs upon his death. It was a...

What is the biggest thing you've towed/drug

When I had my IH 1466, I dragged my neighbor's 50 hp John Deere out of a mud hole he had driven into. Sank his rear wheels up to the PTO and could only spin. Snapped a heavy chain on the first attempt, then succeeded in easing him out veerrry slowly the 2nd time.

So what do you guys do?

Sounds like they wanted you out of the loop, competition-wise. I had a similar "offer" from an out of town company that wanted me to "bid" on local service jobs for them. Go to a job as low bidder? Don't think so. Like you, I just work for myself.

So what do you guys do?

As for Lyndon Johnson's letter, whether you wanted to go or not, you have my respect, sir. I was a little behind you with a college student deferment, and by the time it ran out, Uncle Sam wasn't drafting as high as my lottery number any more. Being a musician, I had plans to go into a service...

So what do you guys do?

I have no problems with nerds and/or geeks. It's the smug kids at the stores that see someone almost 40 years older than them, and therefore must be a hick. This being a college town, there is always someone opening and then closing a computer "business". Some time back, one young man told me...

So what do you guys do?

Could be. I started with a computer from a garage sale some 20 years ago and found that I had a sort of natural knack for figuring things out and repairing both hardware and software problems. At one time I fixed my friends computers for fun (read "free"), and then I started developing too many...

So what do you guys do?

Taught school for 33 years before I retired in 2006 and now work part time as a computer repairman. Raised in a small town but always out to visit Grandma at the farm my great grandfather first bought in the 1890s. Dad bought it from her in the 1960s. I used to hate working for him, because he...

    Heads Up - Scam

A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular Home Depot customers. Over the Last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Just going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends. Here's...

    Old Treasures

These photos are of the tractors I sold and traded to make room for the new John Deere. There are some great memories here. The IH 1466 and 21 ft. JD Surflex were bought from my father-in-law. The 1946 Farmall H with Corsicana Shredder belonged to my Dad. The H went to a very good home along...

    Take your pick

I have used both Remedy mixed with diesel and some "Power Pellets". So far, the pellets have not done as advertised unless I really use more of them than the instructions call for. That makes it very expensive. Have had good luck with the Remedy, which is a lot more work. Dad used to dig them up...

    ZTR air pressure

My Toro ZTR calls for 13 psi on both front and back tires, kind of weird. I find that I only scuff the yard up when I forget to slow down on sharp turns or when I circle a tree too fast. Most of my yard is blow sand, so it is not hard to scuff.
