    Tails From the Barn

In western Canada almost all cattle are raised somewhat as you do. In the east we have barns to keep them in for the winter, or at least that was the way many years ago. Now most farms in our part of the country try to keep them out all year. What i do is small scale farming and when I smarten...

    Tails From the Barn

I will give some in site to how we run our farm so you might appreciate what can and does happen. We run about 30 head of cattle, cow calf and finish/market and a few thousand free-range chickens through the summer. In the winter we keep our cattle which are mostly 6 month calves, cows and a...

    Tails From the Barn

I was posting on the RTV site about some cattle at our farm and thought this might be a more appropriate section for some cattle/farm stories that some people may have. I have a few that come back to me over time. I guess we will see if there is any interest.

    RTV900 Earning its Keep

Since we raise both I have my opinion on which is smarter. Chickens just as soon as you turn the light on they want to eat regardless if they are hungry or not. When they are frightened they all pile in the corner and smother everyone on the bottom. When they see a predator they play dead...

    RTV900 Earning its Keep

I saw a tv show, probably PBS, with her showing how see designed chutes and why they worked. I bet it was fifteen years ago. I was interested at the time and more so today. I bet I have Incorporated a lot of her ideas into use without even knowing it. We move cattle from the field to the truck...

    RTV900 Earning its Keep

I was just thinking while reading your post of our experience a couple weeks ago. One of my employee's was returning to the farm from a day of splitting woods a couple miles back in the woods. He has to drive by one of our wood pastures and just happened to see one of our spring calves unsteady...

Hyd Dump Reservoir Cap Leaking Oil

Army worms are bad. We had them here about 6-8 years ago and destroyed fields over night. The last few years have been wet and no one has seen any. My issue deserves another thread on a different topic but here is the short story. I have a 2002 GMC 1 ton that I bought new. The rear seal of the...

    Hello From Nova Scotia

Thanks for the welcome guy's. I have been reading here for months before and after purchasing the Kubota. The knowledge here is great and saved a lot of trial and error on what to get for a machine as well as accessories. Peanut has the stick stoppers en-route.

    Hello From Nova Scotia

Just signed up a few weeks ago to discuss tractor stuff. I have been around the other tractor sites for years with the same nic when I found Forums Forums. From forums forums I found this site. After we purchased a RTV 1100 this seemed to be the place to be. Brian
