1929 Fordson Snow Machine

I just discovered this on You Tube and it is quite the machine. Never saw anything quite like it--a Fordson tractor running on top of snow with twin screw-like flotation tubes. Check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBjlSJf4274&NR=1

Can see why they might not have taken off if you think about what would happen if you stepped onto one of the screws...

(Probably somewhere else on this site where this should be posted, but I don't know the other guys and I know you guys like interesting gear.)

Thanks for the link, Melensdad!

Well you found a subject near and dear to my heart. I used to restore old tractors, but sold my last one about 8 or 9 years ago. My wife said I went into a funk and needed to fix up something else so I looked around and found an old dual track snowcat . . . I remembered it from playing with Matchbox toys . . . so I got it in England and brought it home to Indiana. Then I went to Doc and asked him if I could post stuff on his FORUMSFORUMS website and try to develop a collectors area for old snow machines . . . one thing led to another and the Snowcat Forums are now the worlds most popular snowcat forums on the internet, with members from literally all around the world. Its most active in the winter months, but it has expanded beyond the brand that I own and now has a few sub-forums for other brands and there are always people posting about old machines like the Fordson you posted.

This is what got me hooked . . . the Matchbox . . . and the real thing:

To say I am envious would be a very British understatement! With our 9 months of winter a snowcat could be a very useful and wickedly fun machine! I will have to start watching your forum!
