I was just wandering if anyone knew the differences between the first 2004 models of the rtv 900 and the 2010 models of the rtv 900.

I'm no expert on the 900, but when I was purchasing my 1140, differences present in the newer version included

better seats/foam/shape/comfort, more waterproof bottom

solid behind the seat... avoids pocket book from falling to ground if it slips from rear pocket.

hst transmission stops much smoother/slower

easier to get to some of the dipsticks, etc.

u joints now have grease zerks... should last much longer

Seems to me that there was more, but this is all I can recall at the moment.

Overall, these were improvements that a lot of people said were needed to improve the usability and reliability of the vehicle.

Texasjohn, I appreciate the reply. I was thinking about trading up from my early 04 model rtv 900. I hope they have made them run with a little bit less noise. I have 1999 model kubota tractor with same horsepower and it don't run half as loud as my rtv.

I do believe that there is more insulation in the bed which helps with noise abatement, but it's what hits your ears that matters.... so guess the best thing regrading noise would be to hear one for yourself. I don't know of any changes to the engine, just haven't studied the question, which might result in less noise.

In my case, I believe the majority of noise comes up thru the gap between bed and back of the rear seat.... am currently looking for some technique to put something in that gap that will redirect noise and heat.... It's not an extremely serious problem, more annoying than anything.

I looked at the 900 and am soooooo glad i got the 1140....the extra seating capacity seems to be used about 50% of the time... either for people or for cargo. It's what works for me.

Cowdog...if you are looking to trade up from your 04 900 (I have an 04 as well)..go for the "new"'11 model instead of a 10. Significant upgrades apparently. Another thread in this forum goes into more detail on the new 900.

Thank you for the information. I visited my dealer which is about 50 miles awayand they have a 2010 900 camo like. I want for about $1700 less than the 2011. I did notice the 2010 had better front drive shaft, wider more comfortable seat and seating position, grease fittings on universal, much smoother transmission, runs much quieter than the 04, and it has hydraulic dump which mine does not have. I like my 2004 but the non greasable front drive shaft with three universals rattles like crazy even after I replaced the transmission universal with the new upgraded split one. The temperature gauge has always driven me crazy as it gets very close to the red before it brings the fan on and I know its not to hot but I still don't like it. My 900 is the 825th unit they made and inside the hydrostatic they used pure brass swash plates. Now when it gets hot it hesitates and vibrates on take off. I have always used super udt in it. I took it to the dealer and he said the transmission was going to have to be taken apart and put in new upgraded steel with brass coated swash plates to avoid this from happening again. I asked him how much this was going to cost and he said expensive. He says all of the models over about the 3000th units made came from the factory with the new transmission updates. I guess what I am trying to say is I hope this unit is the Kubota quality I thought I was getting with 04 model. Even with few problems it is still a very good unit and much heavier built than anything else I have seen is this price range to use on the farm.

The 2011 900xt he said the transmission was the same as the 1100 and the drive shafts also. It did not shift any different than 2010 but they are both new and may be a little bit tight they both shifted much better than my 04. I have never really had a problem shifting with the 04 as long as the true neutral is set. I have several tractors on my farm besides the little kubota and the newest one is a 1974 model so I am used to being patient on shifting. I could not tell any difference between the noise on the 10 and 11 models. This is a great site and thanks for the replys. I like the 2010 because it is within my budget.
