Purchased a 2010 RTV at an auction, 760 hours. Doing breakdown to clean up frame rust and cable/hardware swap. Interested if anyone has insight on how much force generally needs to be applied to both the 4WD engagement lever (the cable connected to) located on the HST and the pressure relief poppet on the rear bottom of the cover plate coming from the brake cable-attach rod-lever then contacts poppet.

My 4WD handle would not move at all, I have yet to clean up the minor rust on the arm however, I am able to move it but it seems bound extremely. Cable has zero binding but is being replaced regardless, handle moves freely once disconnected from the control lever

The Poppet doesn't move at all, I am going to remove the valve assy and soak in vinegar prior to seeing if I can get it to start moving.... but I was curious to how much pressure I should expect.

Should be fun.

The ”poppet” has a compression spring beneath the S-cotter and the spring should not need full-compression to operate the poppet.
The 4WD lever can be obstinate unless the RTV is slightly moving, in which case it moves readily with only a pound or less of pressure.
Hope that helps.

being a 2010 model the 4wd lever should be in the dash??? correct? if so on my rtv 1100 the 4wd lever moves freely but if the gears aren't lined up it won't fall into gear and no amount of prssure will help. the machine has to be moving just barely and usually on an off throttle moment. the poppet should work with finger pressure whith the engine off and the pressure relieved. take some wd40 and soak the poppet while still on the machine then gently tap it with a hammer to free it up. do this several times a year. or use a dab of transmission oil. does your have a pull on the dash to relieve hst pressure?
