New2008 RTV 900: I completed all the fluid andfilter changes, greasing, and other checks as Kubota recommended. Everything went smooth until I checked the screen in the muffler. It was completely sealed with black soot residue. Is this normal???? What other options are available--other than checking/cleaning it every 25 hours???????? Thanks for the advice.

WELCOME TO OUR WORLD, WELCOME TO THE FORUM !!!!

Unless you are running on goverment land, you don't need one.... I know just about everybody down here, that's one of the first things that is removed isthe spark arrestor.Ours was clogged in the area of 9-13 hours. When I removed, it ran so much better and stronger. Engine can't breathe, itwill not run proper !!!!

Hope you went back with OEM FILTERS AND FLUIDS... Did you use the Super UDT ?

Do you have a high rise intake on your machine ?

Welcome to the RTV Forum and congrats on your new RTV 900. Lots of very informative information on this site in regard to the Kubota UTV's and othernon-related topics too.

As far as your plugged up muffler screen... seems to be almost 100% agreement to take that screenout of the RTV and store it in a little box on the shelf of your shop until one day you see it again and then throw it away. lol

Welcome GFC. My spark arrestor was"lost" several years ago. Back then, they were attached to the tip of the tailpipe. Hope you enjoy the RTV as much as I do. It makes work fun! (But don't tell anyone and they will think you did all the work and need to be waited on -- because you got so much done-- and surely must be tired because of such accomplishments . :- ) Bordercollie

Welcome to the forum! I don't need to add to what others have said, just want to let you know that we look forward to your being a part of the neighbourhood.

Thanks for the comments. The screen is now on the shop table. I still have4 areas that concern me:

[*]Location of air-filter pick-up. I want to change it!
[*]Improve the fuel filter system.
[*]Install an engine oil filter system with greater capacity.
[*]Figure out how to improve the shifting without having to play with the foot-feed, steering, etc. etc.
[/list]

I installed a coaster-valve in the tranny at the time of purchase.

All oils and lubricants used in the 50-Hr Maintenancewere full synthetics by Amsoil. Am using Donaldson filters. I've used Amsoil products since 1989 in all of my vehicles and equipment, and I use oil analysis if any question arises.

High rise for the RTV 900, the air box is bigger, has two filters inside, and is worth every nickel !!!!

They have a kit for the fuel filter system for these machines >>>

Just cut off the spark arrestor for my 1140 after reading the thread. Appreciate the advice.

Will be changing all my fluids to synthetic in the next week and am going to inquire about that high rise air intake although I'm not sure how it will work with an 1140.

By the way, loving my 1140.
