Any Ethanol in Biodiesel

Just curious. AT the rate small regular gas engines are failing due to enthanol I was wondering if their putting any in regular or Biodiesel. Was down at the chainsaw shop and they are having fits with ethanol damaged motors. Reports of damage to atvs and other gasoline offroad vehicles seem common. I know it killed my power washer it corroded out my carb.

It is bad enough they took the sulfur out of it and reduced the power and lubricity. If they were to add ethanol it would wipe out pumps real quick.:cuss:

CARB still owes me $1500 for damage their fuels did way back when. Wonder if another class action would get Gov't attention? Saw shop says to use stabil to help reduce but not stop ethanol damage. NO MORE GAS POWERED ENGINES for me!!! Is there a diesel chainsaw?

They dont put ethanol in diesel at the pump. It's basically recycled vegetable oil that goes in B20 diesel....20% veggie oil. I dont know that B20 is harmful like ethanol is.
As far as the diesel chainsaw, they used to make em in a few Norse countries in the '50s and '60s. I cant find anything more recent in small diesel engines for small hand held power equipment.

Shop guys said ethanol is killing repair profits. They have a growing pile of saws ( some looked new) that owners havn't reclaimed as it costs too much to fix. Beware of nice looking used ones on ebay as I think thats where some wind up. If you can get em started they will run a while then seize up.

I am also in Calif. and have to deal with Ethanol in the gasoline and the damage it causes. I have switched to the Ethanol free gasoline that I get at the Petroleum distributor that is 92 octane. By the time I add sta-bil and 2 cycle oil it gets a bit spendy. However, compared to chaisaw and small engine repair it is a bargain. I use Ethanol free in all of my small engines, both 2 and 4 cycle.

Now now now come on folks the ethanol is for a cleaner world. Don't worry that your saw will only last a year or two then be junk. Heck look at it this way you get a new machine this way.

I have had good luck with Marvel mystery oil(for all my engines) and just a bit extra on the 2 cycle oil for chainsaws. I have only changed a spark plug once in a 7 year old saw. Another thing that I don't get is if these "new" engines are sooooo perfect then why do they burn twice as much fuel to do the same amount of work?

I think the new small engines burn more fuel because of the ethanol in the fuel. A gallon of fuel with ethanol has less energy, lower BTU's, than a gallon of clear unleaded. So it would take more fuel to do the same amount of work. Before I switched to clear unleaded for the small engines, I was replacing carburetors ever other year.

They don't put ethanol in diesel fuel.

Biodiesel is refined plant oil which is a good quality fuel. I have run B20 (20% biodiesel - 80% diesel) in my Dodge for the past 85000 miles or so. Runs good, smells better.

LongBlackRam, I quess I was being a little sarcastic{to our allmighty rulers) about the fuel usage. I do agree ethanol is more of a pain then a help. Another question for you if ya don't mind. How well does the biodiesel work in colder climates? I have seen it up here half the price of regular diesel, but only for sale in the summer. I thought of mixing like you suggested but am afraid of clogged fuel lines injectors etc..

Stay clear of bio-diesel in colder temperatures...Depending on what they made it from, some of that stuff will start to Gel at 40f and if you fill up with it in the summer be sure to burn it all before the cooler temperatures arrive.

Vintovka, Non ethanol gas runs us .10 a gallon more when we buy it for our 500 gallon farm tank. It is hard to find in town . bordercollie
You get E0 gas for 10 cents over E10 gas at the pump? That's pretty good. Around here, it's about 20 cents over E10 and another 10 cents per gallon for delivery.

Now, if you buy E10 for bulk, it's the same price (delivered) as it is at the pump. Just be sure to add Marine Formula StaBil or other decent additive to counteract the ethanol.

I just checked with the distributor in Eureka Ca, and the price today for a gallon of 91 octane Ethanol free gasoline is $5.67 a gallon. However, up here on the NorthCoast we often pay the highest prices in the country for fuel, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.

I forgot to say that regular 87 octane at the card lock today is $4.25 a gallon. It looks like we are paying an additional $1.42 a gallon for the Ethanol free. However, I only buy a 5 or 10 gallons at a time.

We are lucky here. Our Ethonal Free fuel station is only 3/10ths of a mile from our home. Small station. Prices are the same at his station as it is
in other stations thew town...... He has some great fuel !!!!

My son is a diesel specialist. He says to use the Stanadyne additives.
So that is what most in our area uses. He swears by it. Will save your pumps and injectors, even more now the way the sulfer situation is in diesel now.

We use the high concentrated lubricaity formula on all our diesels.
They make several additives to meet your needs .

On gas burners. We use Stabil to help stablize the NON-ETHONAL fuels that we get.
AND, you cant beat the Sea Foam for cleaning out injectors and carbs in the gas burners. We run Sea Foam threw our stuff ever threw or so tanks just to keep the lines and jets clean in the carbs.....

Sounds like somebody is confusing methanol with ethanol. Ethanol is an oxidizer added to GAS. Some people have used ethanol for bio, but the glycerins don't separate well with it. Methanol is the preferred base for bio. Here in OR we have a lovely mandate that forces everybody to use B5 minimum. Most of the bio here is made from canola or soy.

Just paid 3.47 this morning at the Non-Ethonal gas station here.

Asked the owner of the station we use about the Ethonal. One question was how does he get his NON-Ethonal fuel. He said that is the way he orders it from the bulk plant. Stated that all fuel comes into the bulk plant ethonal-free. The bulk plant adds the ethonal in the fuel there. He calls it "filler"...

Customers call it crud ......

Ethonal sure is messing up many outboard motors, lawn mowers, small engines in general ....

Back in Late 80's EPA messed with diesel in CA and killed an untold number of engines. Within a week of use my nice 4 year old Diesel Maxima Sedan was pouring fuel trail on the street and had to be towed to a repair place. EPA Paid only 1/2 the bill and said "sue us" for the rest. Still waiting form the class lawsuit to end but the govt decided to keep it suspension forever. Bet same thing will happen with ethanol. Millions in damage and Govt has decided outcome. Strongly reconsider buying any gasoline powered engine right now.

This is what my son is installing on so many vehicles. Work trucks, Farm equipment, all types of heavy equipment. Even family diesel burners.
It has become a daily thing for him.
Stanadyne Fuel Managers. Fuel & Water Separator.
TWO MICRONS ON THIS MODEL >>>>>

He installed this one on my friends truck yesterday. In a Cummins one ton
work truck.
Hunter says if you plan on running a diesel. Best get one on now, or in time, the way fuel is now, either take care of your pumps and injectors now with this system, Or you going to put a whole lot more money in your diesel engine later.

Price of the injectors & pump are very, very pricey. Not counting the labor it going to take to install them. Something to think about !!!!

I know Peanut has a diesel, he will be getting one soon in his truck .....
