Door Panel Removal

Hi Folks,
I have to tighten the passenger door handle on my X1100C. Upon looking at the door, I assume I will have to remove the orange panel on the exterior of the door to access it. Is it as simple as it looks to get off?

Yep , the rubber trim that surrounds it holds it in place . Works best when it's in a heated garage . I used a hair dryer to make it extra warm , use a wide blade putty knife to start it . Keeping it warm is the key to working with the rubber .

Thank you sir. I was figuring a couple of the nuts on the inside of the door was holding it in place.
Great info.

the pop rivets that hold the panel are under the rubber gasket. put your thumb nail under the gasket from the inside of the panel and gently lift up the edge. then you will see the rivets that look like a Philips head screws. then turn the screw 1/4 turn CC then with your fingernail pop the phillips head screw out about 1/4 inch then lift the entire rivet out of the hole. trying to pry the panel off with the rivets engaged you risk breaking them.

You should make a video of the panel removal . If I ever get mine off will put some of that adhesive backed heavy rubber sound deadening material on the inside.. while its open.. maybe even mount some speakers in the door ?

I do not believe there is room for speakers. If you look at the door the interior is molded to accommodate the door latch and the window mechanism. Even putting sound deadening material will be tricky. I had a dent on the outside in the lower corner of the door, There was very little room inside to straighten it out. My hands were all scratched up due to the lack of space and the sharp edges. I will try and post a video.

it is difficult to get a good picture, I took several, hopefully you can see what I am talking about. I tried to take a video of the removal process, however it is almost impossible to do and hold the phone. Will see if my son can film me doing it. There might be a spot in the door very near the floor that might work for a speaker. I will try and see if I can tape a speaker in there and see if it interferes with the window.
