Doint my weekly inspection of my 900 I noticed I have a damn ripped boot again grrrrrrrrr.
NOw I need to look back in a million and 1 records to see where I ordered my last boot from.
When it rains it pours.
I also went through my truck and found out its front brake time
My poor wallet is bleeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll jinx myself, but haven't ripped any yet. I'm in the brush a LOT. Someone will chime in with a good source for boots. Good luck with the repairs......

here is where i got the last one.
Upon inspection and Obama rigging it I found out it wasnt an actual rip per say.It was dry rotted.I can see other sections foing on it also.I replaced the passenger side a few years back due to the same dry rot.It is an easy fix just a lot of patience and very greasy.I m trying to remember If I had to drop the A arm on it or If I dot away without having to drop it.Ill have to look back at past posts here to see if I said anything about it.But for now I have it Obama rigged with some heavy plastic wrapped around it in several layers to keep the dust and dirt out of it till the new part arrives.Just remember everyone to inspect there boots weekly if your machine is getting old.Easiest way it to jack up the front then turn the steering wheel to one side and roll the tire. You will see it right away if its ripped. Then turn the wheel the other way and roll the tire.
Have a good weekend seeing im not lol

Its official its done.Would have been easier if I didnt get 3 phone calls loosing track of things and put the inside boot on the outside and the outside on the inside.Had to take the alxe all apart switch and regrease it.I didnt have to drop the A arm as a 20 inch extension worked fine for getting to things.Hope i dont have to do this for a long while but at least i know how to do it and know even my broken azz can do it so anyone can "

Been in Ark working on the old home Mark. No internet there. I'm glad you got it done and I know what you mean about the wallet. The 115 year old home there could use a wad of fixing right now- .. Oh well , I look at it as a bit at a time so it doesn't get too despairing- but dry rotten boards are pretty depressing.
I think if you jack the front end up enough onn the RTV, you don't have to remove the A arm but just let it swing straight down. collie

Yup that and a long extension.I ordered the part today and hopefully it will be here in a few days. Then the greasy mess begins.Im thinking if it isnt to hot out and I dont hurt to bad ill finally change out the bad rear joint also. All depends on how ambitious I get.
Huggs and be safe

Any heavy torque on any of those bolts or parts or is it pretty much just getting to stuff, cleaning it up, and then back together?????? Great thoughts on your repairs to keep it going.......

Dennis, I'm sorry, I missed your question.. This is where I redid my boots in August 30 of 2011- look at that post maybe. http://www.nettractortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14060&highlight=front+boots&page=7
I would be cautious of the unknown torque on the front end's 3 bolts -each side- it looks like aluminum so I just tightened as a tire -alternating till all gradually done .and those O rings too- making sure it doesn't fall out on you. collie

Boot all replaced.I couldnt remeber off hand what needed to be taken apart and I couldnt find my manual or Bordercollies Number grr.But I finally located the manual and all repaired. It is stall a greasy messy job and was no better than the last time I did it.
I did find i need a ball joint grrrrrrrrrrr
Have a nice weekend

Mark, Glad to hear it's all done. I don't remember that stuff neither- I need to take pictures every time and pray I can find the pictures when something needs to be done again. Also, I know all about grease - I just even look at it and it gets all over me. ;) Have a great weekend . collie

Getting old sucks lol.Have you ever changer a lower ball joint on the 900 Judy?If so any hints or tips to help me along. Also one day when you get a chance drop me your PH number again in a PM and this time ill add it right to my cell phone.Huggssssssss you the best

Mark

Mark, Yea, I hate getting old as far as memory goes too.
I did change a ball joint on the '05 but that was a long long time ago- Maybe 8 years. I do remember the old one turning and turning as I tried to remove it. I broke out the vice grips and then got it off. The new one was no problem to tighten. I would say to take off the tire and clean those threads ,spray with lubricant, before attempting. collie
