FUEL CAPS DIFFER

Been doing some thinking, being I still have the original cap that came with with the RTV, ( dealer let me keep it ) and have the new cap that came with the replacement fuel tank on the machine. Went out this evening to compare. Took both caps off and laid 'em out to compare.

This is what I found >>>>> On Both caps, the words - - - KELCH MEQUON MI - - - on on the underbottom of the cap. BUT, the difference is after the WI, is a number. Now, the cap that DON'T leak, has the number 2. The original cap that came with the machine from the factory has the number 1. >>>>>>. THE NUMBER ONE LEAKED TERRIBLE WITH THE OLD TANK !!!

Don't know if it means anything or is going to help, BUT , if one goes to the dealer for a replacement cap. Look at the bottom and see what number it has.

Before the dealer replaced my fuel tank, he sent me a cap that said " DIESEL " on the top. I tried it on the old tank, and it did not work, it leaked worst than the origianl cap. I gavethe " Diesel " cap back when the replacement tank got intalled.

Both caps that I have DO NOT HAVE DIESEL on the top !!!!!

WHAT NUMBER DOES YOUR FUEL CAP STATE ???????

Re: FUEL CAPS DIFFER

Interesting observation TG's. Of my 4 caps, 3 are the mequin and the 4th one that came installed on my replacement tank is cedarsburg. Spelling may
be wrong but I'm NOT muscling the cap off again to look!!!

On the three Mequon's, what numbers did they have on them ? Did all of yours have gaskets on them ?

Some members were talking about some sort of lubricant on the threads, I dashed a little amount of 3 in 1 oil on it to see if it would help when the time comes to remove. I don't really put mine on that tight anymore, I'm a quick learner after fighting to get it off one time when I wasn't paying attention. +

Re: FUEL CAPS DIFFER

2 of them are "1" and the other has no number.

Let us know how the 3:1 oil works. I tried Nyogel but it didn't really help.

My cap has a black plastic gasket. It has the words KELCH MEQUON WI and the number 1......It is on a 07 kubota 1100...

The cap is very tight but does not leak........The machine was purchased the last week of December 2007.......

Re: FUEL CAPS DIFFER

That's great, you are one of the lucky ones. You received a tank & cap that the threadsmatched. I believe that ALL caps are going to be tight. And believe plastic threadsto plastic threads has something to do with it....Have not really heard of anyone that has a true " easy " top on theirs. Like I said before, mine now don't leak, with the # 2 cap, but also, I don't tighten it up so much, when I feel the gasket touch. I stop >>>>> The first few caps, you could tell the threads were a little different, by the way they wanted to go on. Even now, I have to take my time installing the cap back on, making sure don't cross thread it.

I know this is a crazy thought, but wonder if the tanks and caps are made from the same contractor >>>>
