Fuel Level

The warranty ended this week on my 2011 RTV 900 XT. Been trying to correct the erroneous indicated fuel level, first by replacing the fuel level sensor (float) a few weeks ago. So I loaded up the XT and delivered it to the dealer Monday for the last warranty repairs. Dealer found the gauge to be sticking and replaced it. I just returned home with the XT and it appears to be indicating the level.

Just so you know, the fuel tank is "L" shaped and the fuel sensor is mounted atop the lower section of the tank. This means that the fuel guage will not move off of full until the actual level is just below the fuel sensor. Long story short, the indicated fuel level is incorrect for some duration after the tank is topped off. I guess the main thing is that the tank doesn't run dry far from the diesel pump.

Must be like some of the vehicles I've owned. First 1/2 tank I could go for-ever. When it hit about 1/2 tank, better find a station.

Glad you got it fixed Pepr. My warranty expires in a month. I hadn't noticed anything to be concerned about. Anything to lookout for? Thanks, bordercollie

bordercollie, my issues have been mostly electrical as one would expect. The only mechanical issue was that the gasket for the dump reservoir cap was folded over on itself resulting in oil leaking from the cap.

I've replaced the hourmeter due to inaccuracy, the temperature gauge and both thermocouples (head and water T-fitting) because of indicated overheating, the fuel level sensor and now the fuel gauge.

As many previously stated, the RTV electronics are of poor quality.

I'd suggest watching gauges very close the next few weeks and also ensure the electric cooling fan is cycling properly. My thermocouple that drives the fan had an open circuit that resulted in the fan not cycling properly, although, the fan would run from time to time. I suspose the thermocouple worked intermittently.

Best wishes!

Thanks Pepr, I will sure keep my eyes open. (I hope you are getting some of this rain to end or relieve your awful drought. ) bordercollie
