Fungus under the seat

Lifted up the seat to notice that the plywood had a black mold like matter two layers deep into the plywood and around the air release holes. The plywood was delaminating from the moisture. Dealer was great, one look and he ordered a new seat for me. Before I put the seat in I am pollying the plywood to resist the moisture that seems to always be there under the seat. Seems to be trapped by the rubber flap over the radiator access. The polly should protect the plywood from this contact moisture. Saw that others on the site have had the same problem.

Glad to hear the dealer is taking care of it for you.

This is one area that needs to be kept dry. When I got my RTV in '04, they were moving so fast that I believe they got windburn instead of mold so I never had the issue. Mine is kept dry so it's not an problem for me but if your RTV isn't kept properly covered, this is something to watch for. So is rust...

I do not do pictures. So I will tell of modification.

Vinyl siding and zip ties. Lip on siding catches on bottom outside, between cab and bed, zip ties to rear screen.

This keeps dust and water from getting under the seat from the back.

Has worked for over a year.

Love this forum, Wishing all a great day.

Just finished my under seat work. Applied 4 coats of poly. Took time to make sure I painted the inside of the holes. Only time will tell if this stops the delaminating of the plywood over time.
