Game Feeder

Gonna use my RTV to carry FEED up to my soon gonna be game feeder. So.....A couple of questions to you folks that are currently using feeders or have. REAL KNOWLEDGE PLEASE

Over the past several years, maybe 4, I have had a game camera pointed at a "Deer Cane" ground/mineral lick. In addition, this year sowed some high dollar food plot seed.....The deer plot is getting grazed on as much of the tops of the plants are trimmed a lot....Over the years the number of deer and other wildlife has grown. THIS year, finally, I have a huge buck with quite a rack for the first time......A BUCK>>>>>>yeah

So, it's time to invest in a feeder for up there, on top of my mountain, on the edge of my land which is as God made it, 40 acres of county land, and then Chattahoochee nation forest beyond that.

Question: I plan on getting something like:
http://www.ontimegamefeeders.com/gamefeeders.asp.............

I dont see it but I know available is a solar charger with the timer that I will use......So:
What kind of feed do I put in there?
How much does a feeder of this type go through in let's say a month?
Any other thoughts?

Oh by the way, the location is totally TOP SECRET, as far as I am concerned and NO, I do not hunt with a rifle; but a camera. Viet Nam PTSD still rears it's head when I see those eyes..............

Thanks guys.........God bless........Dennis

Hey Dennis. First I must tell you that I always appreciate your closing phrase to all of your post. So, May God Bless You, also.

I'm not experience with having my own deer feeders, but have heard lots of stories about bear destroying feeders supported by legs. The common response to the bear issue is hanging the feeder from a large tree limb having a boat winch attached at a lower level to allow lowering feeder to refill it.

Sorry, that's all I can provide.

Thank you for your military support!

May God Bless You, Philip

Yes, I have MUCH experiance with that very feeders.

My question is:
Do you have bear ?

If so, you are fixing to spend much money on feeders ....

I had to quit using them in the areas bear was at, for they would
just totally destroy the feeder and waste much feed.....

I left you a Private Message Dennis, take a look >>>>>

deer feeder

look up capsule feeders. These feeders are varmint proof and can be loaded from your tail gate. I have been using them for four years without a problem. They are not bear proof.

Just type in deer feeders or homemade deer feeders .
There are so many great ideas and ways a person can
go about this.

I use moultrie barrel feeders on tri pods and charge with a 6 volt solar charger. Battery stays fully charged. Don't have any bears in my area. Feed rate and feed quality depends on what you are trying to do. If you are just trying to keep deer around any grain or feed will do. I would set timer to run 8 seconds twice a day.(50lbs should last a couple weeks at that rate.) If you are trying to grow big deer I like purina deer chow. Feed rate will depend on deer census. Good luck

If power is a problem Id use a gravity feeder.I had to make mine bear proof. It sits on 1 2 inch diameter tripod and I use a 55 gallon barrel that is 1/2 inch thick so the bears dont destroy it.I cut a 4 inch hole in the bottom of the barrel and made a cone for the bottom and a plate on it .I use corn in mine and it keeps the deer and turkeys happy.I no longer have any bears in the area so I dont have to worry about them.I also Plant Oats in the small field where the feeder is so it gives multiple food sources to hold the game. The 55 gallon barrel holds about 350 pounds of corn and will last 7 to 10 days here.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.....NOT into WHAT to use as am pretty sure that I am gonna go with the "On Time" type of feeders.........

Golly I sure wish we had bears.....Some old timers say we do around here and also mountain lions........Am gonna have my game camera pointed at it so I hope I get a bear doing it's thing.....lol......THEN I WILL HUNT with my zeroed into 400 meter "Correct" grade Garand......one of the things that I like about the "Time Out" style is that they seem to be coon, possum, and squirrel proof.........Thanks for the thoughts guys......OH yes,................

DO YOU FEED all year or just when??????............God bless.......Dennis

This type out of 6" PVC is quick and dirty....we use this outfit to supply the goats with minerals and baking soda..........squirrel, coon, and possum proof?????????
Seems it would be totally easy to mount on a "t" post to at least slow them down......HMMMMM a deer eats at what height?.....or does it matter??????.....Am thinking that possums and coons couldnt climb the "t" post so raise it up high enough to eliminate critters from jumping up into it.........God bless........Dennis

Philip.......
HE is with all of us always and in ALL WAYS......................

17 years of straight and sober here with HIS guidance. Hardest part every day is just to turn it over to HIM........If I can just keep doing that, maybe, with one day at a time I can make it to 18............God is sooooo very good.........Dennis

NO I am not some bible thumper nor waving hand "new lifer".........just an old guy who appreciates all the many times that I have SEEN what He and His Angels have done for me.........

Amen to that. Everyday is a struggle and at a low eb sometimes, I would be lost without Him and His promise. It keeps me going .Otherwise, I would just curl up in a ball and be without hope. bordercollie
