Me and the new wife are taking delivery of a 900 Special Edition on
Monday and we can't wait. She likes to be out and about on the farm with
me and didn't like riding double on the 4 wheeler so we traded for the
RTV.Will it take us long to get used to the way the hydro tranny stops
when you let off the accelorator? Any suggestions ahead of time?

WELCOME,

GLAD YOU CAME ON IN ,

No, it will not take long to learn the braking on the RTV. It will quickly be like the blinking of your eyes, automatic >>>>> Just take your time, it will come to you !!!! EVERYBODY has gone threw this ~~~~

Welcome!!

The hydro tranny takes a bit to get used to...
I've found that I've been taking the approach my 10-year-old daughter uses if I need finesse. If you want a real smooth stop, use the brake on your way into a stop. It'll be as smooth as a car.
For normal use, I just let off the pedal slowly. You'll get used to doing it.

Welcome to the forum!

The transmission is no big deal. If you let off too fast you will come to a quick stop. After a couple of times doing that you will develop a feel for easing up on the pedaland coming to a very smooth stop. I rarely ever use the brakes. If I am stopped on a steep hill I may have them on to hold the machine. The transmission actually becomes the brakes. That is one great transmission. Take it out Monday when it gets there and in 30 minutes or less you will be doing it like a pro......Congratulations!

Welcome aboard, congratulations on your new machine and new wife........wow what a deal.............

Don't forget when you are going up a hill and if it begins to bog down a bit to just back off on the throttle a bit. Extra hydraulics kick in. No you dont speed up; but you get lots of power kickin in so you don't loose speed................Dennis

Welcome KevLis900SE , You will just love this machine. It is perfect for farm use,bug spotting/inspecting and checking on things. I use to lift my foot up all the way off the pedal and would jerk to a dead stop. Now I ease off and have mastered a slow stop on my machine. Read the threads on the trans, If you have to come to a complete stop on an incline and you are in H you will probably have to shift into L to get rolling. If you have your foot on the brake in this situation, it is sometimes hard to shift. so beware. In sticky or unknown situations ,I try to be in M. Today we were driving an 1800lb bull down the lane to the barn and I had forgotten to shift down into M and I was also in 2WD. Well of coarse he tried to turn around I had to stop in deep mud . I couldn't get rolling so I had to shift into L to get out of this and I took right off then. But he had gotten past me . Did it all again but in M and he couldn't snake by me then.Make sure your fuel cap is easy to operate. It is a problem for some of us. Good Luck, Bordercollie[&][&]

Thanks to all for the great welcome and the heplful hints.I can't wait
to get it in the shop and redo the spot sprayer and boom that was setup
for the 4 wheeler.

Sure helps on the life of the brakes. Be careful on the icy roads though, it will lock the back up and put it in a slid, neighbors dog almost got some orange on it when it ran out in front of me on one of those days.

Ditto on muddy/wet lawns. I've put a couple divots in the yard when I wasn't thinking...

Well it's here and I got to run it a little today, was 7 degrees with below zero wind chills so I didn't feel like being out too much. They installed a tinted windshield for me and I ordered the hazard light kit and a rear view mirror for it.Can't wait to run it around some more that's for sure!!!!

Congratulations! Too bad it's so cold out. At least you got a windshield. That will help. It's a great machine and you'll find many uses for it, I'm sure. Have fun!

I'll try and get some pics tomorrow and get them posted. It will mainly be used for working around the farm and a little bit of joy riding.A friend of mine bought an old rock quarry and has made trails all over the property that they drive ATV's and Jeeps on so we may go over there some.

Welcome Kev and Lisa, I'm a horse farmer in Maine. Use mine for all sorts of jobs on the farm. The trouble is no matter what I use it for I smile from ear to ear. Got to learn not to smile so people think I'm working!

Try to remember to wear them seat belts, ( It a good idea ) expecially if you are going on un-even terrain .... In my case, I just about have to wear 'em all the time, spray on so much STP Son-of-a-Gun protectant on the seats. My butt is just wants to " shoot-off" the seat even if I'm just slowing down quickly ~~~ [:D]
