High Adventure in the Pasture

High adventure in the pasture this afternoon. A couple of the guard dogs were doing their "snake dance" this afternoon. They are Anatolian Shepherds and do a special kind of carrying on when snakes are involved. Also, one of the new puppies was carrying on with them and then all of a sudden headed for the high country.

This is the second timber rattler we have gotten this year. The goats just stand there giving their goofy look like "it aint after me" and then spook when the commotion really gets started. Anyway, something to do besides get in the firewood...........Dennis

You do know they are protected ,don't you. I "guard " them with a 12 ga. with 7 shot trap loads myself. I HATE snakes when they get in my space.

I was down for over a month >>> The one that got me, I never seen it until he hit !!!

That was a bad year for me .... Soon as I mostly recovered from that, a dog bit my little toe off my right foot, almost got two, but he didn't >>>>, month after that, cut my left index finger almost completely off ( but, got it sewn back on good now though ) on a John Deere combine >>> Yep, bad year !!!

Tommy,

When a snake is crawling, how do you tell if it's a male or female ..... ? Just in case they have a ......" Buck Only " season ????

Hondajust released the 1980, 110ATC >>>>

I went and picked up one that evening as soon as they came in !!!( it was veryexpensive$600.00 cash, out the door )

Rode it for maybe 30 minutes and parked it.Done got comfortable around the house. Friend came by, wanted me to show him. I did !!!!KEEP IN MIND, I'M BARE- FOOTED !!!! After he left, I decided to run it " down the'ole gravel road".

Down the roadwas about three of the meanest dogs in Louisiana. Dogs came a running at the three wheeler. As one got pretty close, I kicked athim. I don't believethis dog was new at this. He took thatmid-section over toward the outside, and half way back on the right foot off., just ripped it off. And hell yes, it damn hurt too !!! Small piece of skin toward the heel was the only thing that kept him from running off with the rest !!!! I am a quick learner, don't kick at dog with no boot on foot >>>>
......... what else would thou want to know

.................... two guns

damn das a bad hurtin you got there.lol i had a 110 three wheeler too it was around 1979 i think because we got it before we moved to schriever and i think we moved here in the late-late70,s

I remember it very well, they released them right before the '79 - '80hunting season, think it wasdove or squirrel . That machine wasgoing to be the rocket. Could not imagine a 110 Honda..... thought it was going to be the hog of hogs ........ the first 110 was a 1980 model >>>> but for many years, they were only 90 ATC's....

Look at the engine sizes now, and look at the Utility vehicles we have.... damn, we've come a long way baby !!!!

Only had 5 rattles and a button. 49 inches and 17 pounds.

Best part about eliminating themis that they really dont try to get away so you have plenty of time as to the choice of implement. Their head is fast so hard to pin that down. My wife is the actual hero in this as she was down at the barn, heard the commotion, alerted to the special way the dogs were acting, and kept it in place while the eliminator (me) made his choice of weapon.

This time chose the scoped 22. 12ga pump makes a mess at that close of a range and the cost of that.00 shot per round needs to be saved for larger "game". The Garrand can pump out a very good long range shot; but trying to hit a snake head at 100 yards is really beyond my skill level. Wife wanted me to use the .38 S&W; but advised her that I wasn't John Wayne on horse back and really couldn't plug that moving head between the eyes with a quick draw from the holster.

Sooooo. ......the .22 with the scope sighted in for the tree rats at 50 yards was used. Needless to say, at 4' it was slightly off. Only took 6 rounds to get him to lay still. Funny really.........finally got a forked stick, pinned the head down, and held the muzzle a couple of inches away as a sight picture..................goteeem............

Put him in the back of the RTV to go up to the house. On the way decided to swing by a neighbor lady who happens to be a devil worshiper. Really.........figured she would love this little devil.......she came out on her front porch to say hey, motioned her over to the back with her thinking that I had more cucumbers to give her. With therattle between my fingers shaking a bit I lifted it up out of the bed....to where she could see it.........lololol........I really think she began to ask for the help of Jesus and God...........Anyway.........God is Good..........Dennis

Indeed sounds like quite an adventure, Dennis! Last time I had an encounter with a Rattle Snake was in 1971, during Army boot camp in Texas. We used a hand grenade on one that was at least 6 ft. long--biggest I had ever seen. But still a bit of over-kill, to say the least! Did you save the rattles?
