How do these quick connects work?

I have a late model 5145 that is in super shape with only 130 hours on it. I hooked up an attachment to my third function hydraulics with no issue…just pushed the hose into the quick connector. When I went to remove the hoses, I could not move either of the outer sleeves on the connectors to release the hoses. I ended up pushing in the hose which also moved the inner sleeve back which I then held in place with a screwdriver and pulled on the hose to release. I know this is not correct. So how do the quick connectors work? Is there a special removal tool? Thanks.

I don't have those.
First, and a main thing is to remove all the hydraulic pressure from the line and coupling.
You then normally pull back on that coupling and the hose should come out.

Have you pressure washed the inside of the sleeve connector? If you have, dont. The inner sleeve has to be able to move out when you pull on the hose. If you are pressure washing them, the lubrication for the sleeve and the balls has been washed out, making your pull release that much more difficult. Try lubing the connector and see if that helps. It's ok to have oily connectors.

Agreed. On my skid steer, if the pressure isn't relieved , it will also be hard to hook back up. I relieve the pressure on mine by raising the hydraulics and turning the key off . then, i only turn the key to the buzz, without starting and let the hydraulics down by their own weight and also work the levers , then cut the key all the way off.
