Hello everyone, I am new to the forum been reading it for a few days now.

I am looking to buy a Kubota RTV. I will use it around the house (5 acres) and a little trail riding. I have found a 2005 900 diesel with 1400 hrs. It was used on a farm and was told it was used about everyday. It is pretty clean and not beat up but you can tell it has been used. I don't know anything about the diesel motor other than it cranks and runs pretty good. Is 1400 hrs a lot on the engine or do they last a lot longer than that. I also looked at a new 500 which I think would do everything I wanted to do. $6900 for the diesel or $8500 out the door for the 500. Which do y'all think?

In my opinion I think you would be better served by going with the 500. Unless that 900 has only been used to haul granny to church on Sundays. It sounds like your useage will be light chores. The warranty on the new 500 is worth considering. The 900's are tough and that diesel is nearly bullit proof.

Me ... I'd go 500 myself ... but that's just my 2 cents....or in this case $1600 difference.

I have an "05 900 with 3800 hrs. I change the engine oil and transmission oil and filters as I should ,but I have replaced the drive shaft several times, the seat, the carrier bearing 2x the rear ujoints 1X ,the cooling fan recently with an aftermarket because the oem was over priced, and some other stuff I probably forgot about. The engine has performed well but it is the other stuff I mentioned that will show up problematic before long in most cases. I use this one on a farm every day too. I would not trade for a new 500 but that is because of what I expect out of it. Mine has the hydraulic lift but the main use is checking fences, moving cows, spraying fence lines , pulling the pile buster and most everything else the truck used to do on the farm. What are you expecting of the unit ? a heavy, diesel work horse or the lighter, gas version that can be hauled in a truck bed from what I hear. How does the 05 shift ? Brake? climb hills? as compared to the 500? If I just wanted a unit for fun , I would go with the 500- but, I make my living with mine so I need the tough larger diesel. Good Luck, bordercollie
