John Deere 2840 Steering Column

My steering column started leaking oil from the top of column under the steering wheel. I took it off and started taking it apart. I got the bottom part out, the dog bone and piston. I can not drive the rest of it out the top. It wont move for love nor money. It rotates just fine but I cant get it out the top. What am I missing?
