John deere x744 ultimate fuel problem

I have a John Deere x744 ultimate riding lawn mower. It's a diesel engine. I changed the fuel filter on it. However, due to misinformation I didn't tighten the locking sleeve on the sediment bowl all the way down. I also didn't pre pre-fill it either. I did a dry crank on it and now I believe the system is airlocked.. I can't even get the sediment bowl to fill up with fuel. I don't believe I hear any humming noise coming from pump when I try to start it or when I turn the key. I have pulled the lines going to the pump and then going from the pump to the sediment bowl and there was fuel in those lines. I've tried priming with the manual priming lever with the hose to the sediment bowl inlet off and fuel does come through the pump to there, but I can't get the sediment bowl to even fill up using the priming while that line is connected... Any help would be so much appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read all this! 😋
 

Priming the Fuel System on John Deere X744​

To effectively prime the fuel system on a John Deere X744, follow these steps:

  1. Loosen the Air Bleed Vent Screw
    • Locate the air bleed vent screw on the fuel filter base.
    • Loosen it two full turns by hand.
  2. Operate the Fuel Supply Pump Primer
    • Use the fuel supply pump primer lever or the primer button on the fuel filter base (if equipped).
    • Pump until fuel flows out of the bleed vent screw.
  3. Tighten the Bleed Vent Screw
    • Once fuel is flowing, securely tighten the bleed vent screw.
  4. Start the Engine
    • Start the engine and check for any leaks around the fuel system.

Important Notes​

  • Ensure that you do not pressurize the fuel tank while priming, as this could damage seals in the injection pump.
  • Be cautious of high-pressure fuel lines, as they can cause serious injury if mishandled. Always relieve pressure before disconnecting any lines.
 
Do you have a pic of your fuel filter housing? We're looking for a screw (not the screw that mounts it to the tractor) that looks like it's not doing anything.

the filter-screen in the tank may be clogged, should be where the line or bowl attaches to the tank
