loud noise

I have an 1120 Kubota with 228 hours on it. I did the 200 hour check-up myself using all Kubota products. I started it one day last week and again yesterday. When it starts it is making a loud almost like chirping noise. It seems to be coming from underneath towards the passenger seat. The fluids are where they should be. Does anyone have any ideas on what would cause this noise? The noise is loud but lasts about 30 to 40 seconds and then goes away.

You'll have to better describe "chirping"?

Belt squealing sound???

Oscillating sound/constant sound???

Did you make any adjustments other than fluid/filter changes??

Sounds like a belt slipping. Sometimes the belt stops slipping once things warm up.

This would indicate the fan belt is too loose. Right after cranking the engine the alternator is recharging the battery and creates a pull on the belt. After a minute or so it quits charging at a high rate and the belt will silence.

You know I guess it does sound like a belt slipping. It only does it on the initial start- up of the day. I will check the belt. By the time get the bed up and start looking the noise stops. I'll check belt tension. Thank you all for the replies.

Have you accounted for all cats and small dogs? Squirrels can sometimes nest up under infrequently used RTV's. I once heard a fisher making that chirping sound. Or, maybe it is something mechanical as others have suggested. Just saying.

I vote for the loose belt. Mine was a little loose the other week and it would chirp especially if the lights were already on when first cranked. I tightened it up and no more chirping. I have also had the heat shield chirping a bit after it developed a crack - it has since fell off..... collie

Keifer, I once had a mouse along for a ride and he cheeped like crazy ... I saw him jump off and that took care of that- collie

I loaded a bed full of timber debris couple weeks ago. I'm putzing along headed for the burn pile. A field mouse jumped from the bed rack onto the seat with me. He wanted off but was afraid of the speed. I stopped. He jumped off. Wonder what's going thru his mind during those few seconds. :)

Dont get me started! Every winter they move into my combine and chew various wires! A few years ago I was shelling corn and one fell out of the overhead vent onto my pant leg and finally the floor where he was introduced to my redwing...:14_6_12:

That's terrible Alaskanassaasin. They are very destructive. Be sure to check your air filter . I had one chew a hole in my truck air filter once and also chewed on my electric wires- collie

Tell me all about it collie! They have been into the insulation under the hood of my daily driver, in and out of dump trucks vents glove boxes, dump trailer battery box, mower deck, before I painted the inside of my cinder block shop they would literally climb the walls and live in the ceiling! I've been working on it since we moved here, tom cat baits, mousetraps, two pet cats and two barn cats, BB gun, cleaning up prior tenants trash you name it, I feel like I have the upper hand now but can't rest on my laurels!

Fan belt

Alaskan, thank you for pointing out the belt adjustment at 200 hours. I was so fixated on topping the fluids properly and finding all the grease fittings that I overlooked that part. When I have time I'm going to go back over everything again. Again Thank you. I am here to learn.

Hey, I'm just teasing there is a whole bunch of crap listed i probably wont check on that they suggest, like tow in on the front tires, brake pedal free travel.. ect

Hey Zoom, you probably already do this but I run a piece of bailing wire through the bait to keep it in place. I got really nervous when a few of them disappeared so I tie them off now days.

Add me to those that don't follow the maintenance schedule to the letter.

I don't worry about the bait disappearing so long as it isn't my dog who's getting into them. I figure if they're carrying it off, a) it's something bigger than a mouse like a rat and b), they're carrying it back to the nest in which case, the whole damn family of varmints can chew on it and die there.

I spotted a mink who's den is about 50' away from my buildings so I'm not going to put the poison out until/unless necessary. I'll let the mink take care of the mice. My dog is a "mouser" and we also have a ton of hawks and once in awhile I see a Bald Eagle or bobcat so varmints run scared in this area.
