Been doing much research lately on oils, filters, etc >>>
For I am a true believer in changing the fluids & filters in any and all
machines before they really need it.
Knowing everybody has their own " favorites " , but some try to avoid some and use the " better " on others. I've also learned you get what you pay for. And on top of that, learn from mistakes that you & others had made, expecially the ones that pulled a big plug out of your back pocket book. For I've been using the OEM fluids & filters in the RTV. This question is not directly about the oil and filters used in your RTV, but other vehicles as well...
Never have used Amsoil, been reading much on this lubricants & filters, so far, I have been really impressed. Thinking about useing it in some of my machines and vehicles on our place. My son, just ordered it for his diesel truck and is going to put in a oil by-pass system that they offer.
Typed in " Amsoil " on You Tube, and ended up with some great info. Also run across videos telling us what was inside what filters. That will get your attention if nothing else will.
Some of ya'll, give me your opinion on some of lubricants & filters. Tell me what you think of them.
One horror story I do have is, that I don't use Fram filters. Reason being, had one collapsed on me on a new car, at less than 8,000 miles. Totaled engine, warranty did not cover !!!! Yep, it was a nightmare. One that I will never forget, for It got deep inside my pocket, and traded in the car for another, lost my butt on that >>>>

We use only OEM filters on our farm machinery. Gee Two Guns, now that is scary about your car. However I have heard that before. What brand do you use now?? I only use Honda filters on the Honda cars .. and a Ford filter in my Mom's car. This sounds like a rainy day research project. :starbucks: (Imagine that icon as just a coffee cup- I could never pay Starbuck's price for a cup of coffee.!!) Bordercollie
 
I would also like to add that Wix and NAPA filters were a favorite of my Dad's He used them on the big diesel engine on his push boat. I think it was a GM 6v71 or something like that. The thing got scuttled in the Miss River oxbow by tresspassers . He got it righted and the engine oil changed and filter, cranked it up and he ran it several more years . And it is still works today I am told. Bordercollie
 
It really is worth the money/hassle of picking up a real OEM filter. My 04 250 V-10 was making lifter pecking noises at start up. It had been doing this for several oil changes at one of the fast change places that do a thorough job. By the way I use Castrol syntex and have for a long time with little consumption at 7000 change intervals.
Anyway, I took it to the local Ford shop the other day for a total fluid/grease check up. The service guy commented that only ford filters prevented "drain down" that prevented the lifters from noise at start up.................Short story......he was right......since then NO start up lifter tapping.......ya live and learn.........Dennis
 
Used WIX filters for years, and has had good service with them. And happy now that I have. For after seeing the video of what's inside the filters, Wix has a metal end plates instead of cardboard plates. Another thing, after looking at the Amsoil website, see that they also sell WIX filters. Makes one think if Wix / Amsoil are related or made from one or the other....
Do know, that the MOTORCRAFT from Ford, is a good filter also. It's been known for years, that the Motorcraft filter will make a engine have more oil pressure. I have even asked my son, who is a diesel mechanic at the local Ford dealership[, and said that they will have more flow, and keep the pressure up. .........

Also, I've read where the WIX filters now has more of a glass enhance fiberboard in their filters other than cardboard style.

The AMSOIL filter is made of some kind of full synthetic nanofiber.

Yea, I was there a few years ago. I got totally immersed in all that oil and filter stuff. Then I realized that if you use premium oil of just about any brand and a good filter (some research needed there) and change them both at the stipulated intervals everything is going work out just fine. That was a relief because I was starting to work the problem to death. :pat:

You will find at the following address some very helpful answers to your questions http://www.filtercouncil.org/index....tail,0&cntnt01articleid=55&cntnt01returnid=86. This is the web site of the Filter manufactures Council (FMC). As you probably know, car, truck or tractor manufacturers, even if they have their brand name on a filter, subtrade the fabrication to a member of the FMC (see the list). When you substitute filters, you have to be sure that the replacement meets the OEM specifications...
You will find also on the FMC web site some very valuable informations on hydraulic, fuel and air filtration.

Most tractor filters are OEM'ed by cummins/fleetguard. Buying the fleetguard label can be cheaper or more expensive. Depends on the application.

Btw.. on fluids DON'T run anything but SUDT in the transmission of an RTV. Its been said before, but it can't be said enough.
 
I bought filters for all my equipment from Messicks and have been happy with them. Price was better than I could do locally. For motor oil I run Rotella in all my diesels.
