Okay, that makes a little bit of sense. Something many people don't understand concerns how a dif lock operates. MOST mechanical dif locks should be engaged only with the tractor stopped. With one tire spinning and one stopped engaging it can cause severe strain on the internal moving parts. Quite often people learn this lesson the hard way. When the spinning parts engage the non spinning parts things can get strained, twisted, bent, broken, ETC and can indeed produce the end result you now have. MAYBE you can pry things apart from the outside and get lucky. Then again it may involve removing the axle housing on the dif lock side to repair the damage.
