Most effecient RPM range?

Having a discussion with a friend about the most efficient RPM range for a 6 cyl. cummins, in a White 8610! Im saying between 1500 and 1850 will get the best fuel mpg and decent power. It has an 18spd tranny so if you do lug it, just grab another gear.

He's saying it needs to be at 2200 at any time, thats what the Dealer and MFG says. I told him they say that so they can rebuild the engine for you in half the amount of time.

What do you think?

Go with whatever is comfortable and like you said, don't let it lug down.

Is he saying 2200 due to getting proper PTO RPM's? If I'm not running a PTO driven implement, I rarely take it up to that RPM range.

All I can say is the 6.7 Cummins in my 3500 likes 1800-1900!
